    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was very enjoyable for me as it provided a new challenge every day and the job stayed interesting with a variety of projects to work on.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt valued by my colleagues. Thankfully my office has a very friendly environment where even the managers and leaders will respect you and not treat you differently because of your position.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Guidance and support is always available at BAE Systems. My line manager was easily accessible and always willing to help with any issues.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload varied from time to time but remained balanced throughout. I have always had at least one thing to do while working here and haven't ever sat with nothing to do. depending on your time management skills you may find yourself with multiple jobs running in tandem but it never overwhelming.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Throughout the placement you are treated as a full time employee, and as such you are given responsibility as you would expect in a real job. This is, however, done with the understanding that we are not fully qualified engineers with years of experience and is more about learning. This can range from managing a full project from start to finish to organising events and conferences within your work stream.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and experience developed throughout this year will be an invaluable asset for me in the remaining years of study. I have become more focused and understand how to communicate with people better. 'Getting the job done' is a philosophy you will learn in the workplace which has a different meaning than in education, meeting other peoples' standards becomes a lot more demanding than meeting your own standards and thus drives you to produce a higher quality of work.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office I worked in was open plan and allowed people to walk over to your desk and talk to you. This meant there was a lot of social interaction which gave the office a very light-hearted mood. recurring jokes and friendly faces all around, people here smile, say hello and are genuinely interesting. The office holds the occasional social event outside of work hours which is always a great time!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement did not have a set structure as the scheme is still young within the company. The line manager and placement managers do a great job of getting you settled and highlighting what your time here will be like and it just goes from there. You work in your position until the year is over.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Very highly. The company would allow us to complete any training we required which was relevant to our roles. Training courses up to two days in different sites around the country can be expected if required.

    5/5

The final assessment can allow for direct entry into the graduate scheme. beyond this there is a wide array of roles within the company which can lead you further and further in your career as an engineer.
