    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed it, i learnt a lot about the aircraft they produce within the company and i learnt about how each parts of the aircraft are made and fitted when i had a tour round the hangers and site. I enjoyed the little pieces of work i completed and met some lovely employees too.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt fairly valued by them as i was not pushed to the side, i was looked after very well and asked how i was and how i was getting on with my work and what sort of career aspects i have and what i want in the future. they took an interest in me and i felt part of the team.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of guidance as i had a couple of tours around the sight and i saw lots of different types of engineering work such as electrical and mechanical as well as technical work on the computers and the more admin-type work the company deal with too.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I definitely improved my skills in engineering and better understand the company and how they deal with problems with customers and also internal problems too. I made sure i asked a lot of questions and got the most out of my experience. I can use this in further education definitely by asking questions and getting information i need.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • very well structured. i was given information about my placement and where i would be each day or week before i started so it was nice to know a plan was already in place. It worked well and the employees and supervisors i worked with made sure they had time for me too.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • the general atmosphere was good, i felt like i could have some good chats with my co-workers and my supervisors and it was nice that it wasn't all work-focused and we learnt about each other and i got to know some workers on a personal level too. There was no problems during my time there.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • they invested their time in me and made sure i was looked after and got as much information and knowledge from my insight as possible and gave me space to ask questions and soak in the information too. They have not financially invested in me and my development however if i was to get an apprenticeship at BAE they would be.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It helped me greatly with this as i saw a variety of work on the sight rather from one area so it better helped me to see where i might fit in and like to be with the company and what work is like on a daily basis etc. It's also helped me improve my thoughts on applying to the company too.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • yes very. I understood a lot more about the business and learnt about their products and customers. I got to see how they handle customer queries and how they're contracts with customers work too. I was told about the benefits for working in the company and what to expect from working there too.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • very valuable to me and this was probably the biggest reason i wanted to do the insight. i learnt about the different engineering work that went on and it helped me decide where i'd best suit the work and what path i'd like to take and whether i would want to do an apprenticeship or apply for a job etc.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • As my insight was more like work experience i was not paid for my visit. it was worth me doing and i expected no money as i really wanted to see first-hand what the company was like and whether it suited me and my future career path. I am interested in engineering but there's only so much information you can get offline about the company.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • during my placement i met lots of employees and worked with different supervisors too. Since i had a well-organised plan I was lucky to get to talk to a lot of people and see what type of work they do as well as ask them any questions i had. I was told apprentices get a chance to visit other sites too if i were to apply for the apprenticeship scheme.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Really good and i got a lot of useful information from speaking to different types of engineering workers too. I was told about daily work from a fitter to a member of the design team etc. there are local areas and a local club different people from the BAE site go too on a weekend so it's a fairly sociable area.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I was informed that there are a lot of emails from the human resources team at BAE about local charity events and how to help the community out and so people can chose whether to take part or not in these different events. On their website there is a dashboard where people can post events too.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I definitely would reccomend it if engineering is something you're interested with and you're willing to give up a few weeks of your spare time to look around the site and learn more about the company to see if it's something that would interest you and the work you're after.
