    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My work placement was unbelievable. So much fun to be at the company and around such positively influential people. Creatives with a common drive towards delivering entertainment. I had more exposure to management and responsibility than any other of my classmates.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like an integral part of the team and made many friends who were my colleagues. I've networked with a variety of employees and partners who all treated me with respect and instilled trust in me.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had two managers during my placement year and both of them took significant time to develop me and hear my thoughts. They both put a lot of trust in me with projects and tasks, whilst guiding me along the way. They were always there to supervise and walk me through anything I couldn't understand.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Incredibly busy. I remember feeling stretched at times, with a lot of weight on my shoulders in terms of delivering projects. However, I enjoyed this workload and revelled in the pressure of being busy

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I wasn't quite running the show! However, considering I was working on major titles for a huge company, I had much responsibility for big projects that made a real difference to our UK and Ireland marketing campaigns. My work was customer facing and seen by hundreds of thousands of players.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I changed as a person, and developed my skills tremendously. Not to mention that I went back to university with a new focus and an enhanced work ethic. This allowed me to go from a borderline 2:2, to achieving a First when I graduated. I was ready for professional life, and felt I could handle myself in many situations that work life throws at you. This placement year completely changed my personal course, and definitely for the better.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great fun in our office, as you would expect from the leading video games company! We work in entertainment and everyone recognises having fun is a part of that. Especially in our creative department.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of this could be enhanced slightly by having some blanket goals for all interns to try and fulfil. Encourage different learning about a variety of areas of the business. Being taken to a studio/HQ would help knowledge building as well.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company did not invest much direct training or development, in terms of classes and lectures or workshops. However, you did learn a lot from your line managers which is a lot more unofficial. However, this is an area that could be improved by EA.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very much so. I returned to the company in a management role where I'm currently finding my feet as a full-time employee. Not only myself, there are also two other interns who have returned following their placement years at EA, currently.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very good social scene, I made so many friends on my placement year, so it was great to return and re-discover these friendships with a variety of different people of different ages from different backgrounds.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Guildford is an expensive area of the country to live in, however, it's a lovely little town in the middle of Surrey that has great access to London, only 40 minutes on a train.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is poor in terms of night clubs. There are great pubs in Guildford, and there are some good restaurants. The office is right in the middle of the town centre as well, which helps.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes absolutely. I'm big into sport and we played football every Tuesday. There were also opportunities to go to various golfing events, along with a lot of events and football matches.

    4/5
