    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my time at IBM, there are many different roles and opportunities available to you during your time here. There is such a large variance in what you can do here, there is something for everyone.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was instantly made to feel like a team member within the company, rather than just another intern in the company. Everyone valued my ideas as much as anyone elses. It was very easy to feel like a valued member of the team as i was able to get involved with everything i wanted to and help as much as i can without being held back because i was an intern.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support at IBM was fantastic. You are given a task manager who will help you with your day to day job, as well as an early professional manager who will look after you and be someone for you have discussions in confidence with about anything and everything. They are always available for help and will always do their best to help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My day to day job kept me busy most days, however there are days when you find yourself with little to do, but IBM will always make sure you have something to do, or are taking part in extra activities, such as giveback or helping other teams with projects you are interesting. The balance of work was perfect.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the responsibility of any a proper team member within IBM, this was great as it means you truly get a feel for what the real working world is like. I was asked to be part of meetings etc and actively take part and contribute, rather than feeling like you were on the sidelines.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills i have learned from IBM have been invaluable, i have been able to take these skills back to uni with me and it has really helped to develop my understanding.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would absolutely love to come back to IBM. The company has been a joy to work for, and is always trying to actively encourage you to become better in your role within IBM. The grad scheme is very appealing with a good wage and many roles available.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was great. There was lots to do within Portsmouth, all the interns would go on regular nights out and do things during the days/evenings when they could.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was lucky and didn't have to move out to go to my placement, so can't say too much about rent prices, but it's not super expensive. Socializing However is really cheap around here and meant it was great for when we all went out.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Many different clubs and bars to go. With various different atmospheres, many places to cater for all types of people. Depends what you like but there is always places for people to go!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • IBM actively tries to make you take part in outside of work activities, they run a giveback scheme where you will go back out into the community or within the company and help out and try to 'giveback' something. for an example i was part of the team that run a big interview day at schools for year 10's to help give them ideas of what a real interview situation would be like when looking for work.
