    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight with Boots as it was very interesting and i enjoyed the work quite a lot too. I think as i was only there for a couple of weeks I had a really good overview of the store and i understood the company more and was able to experience different bits of work and know what sort of shop work i prefer too.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued as all the employees and my supervisor was helpful and always asked me questions about my interests and why i wanted to have an insight into Boots in the first place. I was well looked after and i had a daily chat with my supervisor on what i would be doing the following day.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of support and guidance from both the employees and my supervisor. I was asked what sort of work i wanted to do and they were able to put me in the areas which interested me the most within the store. I can't fault any of the team members and i think from experience with other young interns they knew how to follow the process in place.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I improved my people skills and speaking skills with customers and better understand how to resolve customer problems and assist both old and young customers too with any problems. I can now work a register which i did not know before and i also have a better understanding for the boots company. I can use these skills in most other jobs but also if i apply for a full time job in boots again

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was very well structures. They had previously had other people in the store for an insight into the work as well as work experience children too for a week so definitely knew how to plan my two weeks and ensure i had seen and worked around the whole store with most employees. if there was any problems it was usually resolved quickly.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • the general atmosphere in the store was really good, we never had any trouble during my insight with any employees or customers. Everyone i worked with was really friendly and asked me questions about what i had previously done in school and what i wanted to do in the future as well as answering any questions i had about Boots too.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the moment the company has not invested in me since my insight was only two weeks long and similar to that of a work experience person. I have, however been offered information and gave my email for any future job opportunities as i think they were interested and would like to see me again if i wanted a job in the store.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It was really good and i would highly reccomend it to anyone unsure about certain job prospects. I was unsure about shop work however now i know the staff and different work on offer within the store i am more likely to apply for a full time job there in the future. The two weeks really helped me out.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I learnt a lot more about the company by asking different staff members questions about the perks of the job and also my supervisor about pay grades and possible benefits from working at boots too. I understand how the website works more and how they work with online orders and customers in that specific store.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I wanted an insight with the store to better understand what i wanted to do after i finished school. I was unsure whether i wanted a part-time job at the store or a similar shop in my local area and i wanted to understand if the work was right for me. What i experienced in my insight was really useful towards this so it was definitely worthwhile.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • My insight at Boots was more of an extended work experience placement in the store. I did not expect any payment and initially i did ask for a 'work experience' placement. I was told an insight would give me more information as the programme was slightly longer and would help me get a better understanding of the store and work as a whole.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I was encouraged to join the other staff members on breaks and to speak to almost all of them and ask any questions i needed to help me decide more on my future. A few of them mentioned having drinks on the weekend and i was initially invited however this never happened due to too many of the staff being unable to go.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • As mentioned above i was invited to have a few drinks with some of the members of staff one weekend during my insight however this never happened due to too many staff members being unable to attend. I was invited though and always included in group chats and never felt left out. I also became friends with a couple of the staff on facebook.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I was not told about many other opportunities outside of work however I was told about events in the local community and a staff charity challenge which was a month or two later after my insight. I think as a part-time or full-time employee there i would get more of these opportunities but as my insight was only a few weeks long it was difficult.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • i would definitely as Boots work is similar to other shops and stores in local town and villages so i would say it's definitely worth doing if you are thinking of doing shop work but are unsure if it's right for you. I think it expanded my skills in different ways and now i know a bit clearer about what i want to do in the future.
