    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight to a large extent, it was great to get an exposure to what it is like to work at EY and learn how EY differs to the other Big 4 accounting firms. They had clearly put a lot of effort into organising the event which definitely paid off and made it a great couple of days.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my time at EY. Many members of staff from their London offices and further afield had taken time out from their work to come and speak to us, including Directors and Managing Partners. The atmosphere meant that we always felt comfortable to ask any queries and questions we had for the staff.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We received a lot of guidance over the couple of days. I always felt like I knew what I was doing, and if I was ever unsure there were plenty of people who would have happily assisted. We knew in advance what different activities we would be participating in and got information about what to wear and what would be provided for us.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The insight helped me develop many skills. It helped me grow my general confidence skills, as well as networking skills. The ‘client exercise’ we participated in on Day 2 definitely helped me build my team working skills and presentation skills. All these skills will provide invaluable during my university studies, and in my career progression.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was extremely well structured. A few weeks prior to the event we received an information booklet which included a detailed plan of what each day will look like and what to wear to the event etc. Everything ran to schedule and you never felt like the event was being rushed. Both days also included a generous breakfast and lunch.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was great, you felt like everyone wanted to be at the event, both members of staff and the other participants. I got the impression all the members of staff really enjoyed their jobs which came off really well and encouraged me to go down the same career path. All the other participants were really friendly and everyone was welcoming.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot of time into each individual and we all received individual feedback from a manager on what our skills are and where we could improve. You could tell lots of effort had been put into the event, from the social media competitions to the talks from the Partners! It was great that lots of members of staff had invested their time for us.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • This is difficult to do within a two day programme but it was definitely done as well as it could be, especially as there was no work shadowing involved. We learned that every role varies depending on the service line and the sector, and no day is ever the same for someone working in Assurance or Tax. It was also good to learn about the different global opportunities the members of staff had.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • We learned how much emphasis EY placed on the people and how the general culture revolved around that. They appeared to be very understanding of people’s personal lives and family lives which reflected positively and I good a very good feeling for the culture at EY and felt like it was one I would enjoy working with.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Extremely, it provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about Assurance and Tax if it is a career path you are uncertain about or what like to learn more about. You will get to see the different services lines and how you will fit at EY. Everyone put an emphasis on how valuable this experience was regardless of whether you want to continue your application with EY.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were reimbursed travel expenses, put in a hotel for the night, and provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • You will meet so many people from the firm, we met 3 partners within a few hours, current graduates, managers and directors. Everyones seemed so willing to meet us and were happy to share their experiences and answer any questions we had. We had opportunities to network with these employees during lunch on both days, and during dinner on the first day.
