    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight thoroughly. It was a great opportunity to explore the industry and to learn a lot about Rothschild and Co. and what makes them significantly different to their competitors. There was a lot of exposure for students to meet professionals at all levels, from junior analysts to directors, which was a great opportunity to gather different professional perspectives on banking related issues.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We were never looked down upon as just Spring Interns and instead, people across the firm were more than willing to speak to us and even take time out of their days to spend extra time with students. Many of my peers and I were able to meet with bankers outside of the scheduled plans to discuss career related matters at greater length and to build personal connections with bankers at Rothschild. HR were always welcoming to any issues through the programme and questions that we had.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There were a series of presentations on Rothschild's core business areas which were very helpful in guiding us through our group projects. Additionally, analysts that we met through work shadowing sessions were very supportive by offering us advice and even being willing to look over our work for the group project in order to provide us with constructive criticisms.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Throughout the week, there was the constant development of soft skills and a greater understand of technical aspects in banking. Having developed through the team project and collaborating with others to achieve the best outcome, a key area of development was with my interpersonal skills. Understanding more about banking and the work that Rothschild does will help me in the future to direct my career choices and aid future applications.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The days were planned to have a lot of activities that were all very interesting. Rothschild's Spring Programme was uniquely structured to also incorporate volunteering work, which I think is a great way to highlight the importance placed on volunteerism by the firm. Additionally, the structure of the programme allowed for a lot of contact time with professionals in various teams - this was particularly helpful to understand more about the different teams and how they all work together in the firm.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere during the programme developed well through the week, as there was more interaction with others on the programme through the group project. This was a great opportunity to build friendships and to also learn from each other. The people participating on the programme were friendly and enthusiastic, and the people conducting the programme were the same too.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The presentations on various teams were great to understand the roles of each team in the firm, and this was complementary to the shadowing sessions. The shadowing sessions were very productive in gaining a better understanding of the roles but also peoples' genuine opinions on what it is like to work at Rothschild.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • 5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • By providing insights into many different teams, the content of every day was incredibly helpful for understanding the various roles and jobs across the firm, which was very helpful in directing future career decisions. It helped me to understand more about different teams but also how they all come together in the firm.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Travel, accommodation and lunches were reimbursed.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was a networking session with analysts and junior bankers and also an afternoon tea session with senior bankers and directors. Both occasions were really helpful in understanding the roles in the bank and how they change as one's career progresses. The people we met were all incredibly friendly and displayed the firm in a positive light.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There was plenty of contact with bankers, both junior and senior, through networking lunches, presentations with Q&A sessions, and an afternoon tea. There was also a social planned for the first day - all of the participants on the programme were taken to a local bar to talk to each other informally and to build friendships. The volunteering was also a great social experience as it was quite fun to work with each other on tasks.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • One morning was dedicated to volunteering. This activity showed how important it is to Rothschild to maintain a culture of community investment. There was a short presentation on ways employees can get involved outside of work through the many charitable ventures that the firm would support employees with, with past examples too.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Absolutely! It was a really fun week where we learned a lot about the firm and the industry but also ourselves. I have come out of the programme understanding more about myself and the career choices I want to make for the future. It's also incredibly helpful to learn about the roles directly from the people that do them rather than to read job descriptions online.
