The Role
Initially I found it difficult to transition into the working world with a 9-5 office job but over time, whilst I learnt more about the role and responsibilities I found it a lot better and have enjoyed it well.
By the team I work with daily, very much so. With other people it took time to build up knowledge and therefore trust but now I feel I am very valued.
I have always been in close contact with my line manager and able to discuss any issues/problem with him.
There is always work to do, I am busy 95% of the time. At first this was stressful as I didn't understand the role fully, Nowadays I enjoy the workload, it makes the day fly by.
I was a member of 3 person team so had many opportunities for work which I was accountable for. Under the supervision of my team leader I had a lot of responsibility.
The most important skill I have learned is planning my time effectively and remaining focused for long periods of time. This will help me during revision for my degree and assist me to get more work done. Furthermore I have completed some externally accredited courses (AGILE for example) which will be very useful in my future career
The Company
My office was particularly boring. Other interns within this office would agreed it can be lifeless.
I think all the basics of the what you would expect from a full time job were covered however in terms of an internship scheme I think more could've been done. I think there should be many more opportunities to try varied work within Atos over the course of 12 months however there is no structure within the placement scheme to allow for this,
There are many courses available to learn if you have a technical capacity for learning. For a less technically orientated student, such as myself, there are less obvious options available and more emphasis on learning through experience rather than specific courses. Having said this Atos have allowed me to learn some project management courses (AGILE for example) which I was very pleased to hear.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
Do to the high level of flexibility (location and working hours), working for Atos on the graduate scheme is very appealing. There are a wide variety of schemes available at a graduate level on business and technical schemes which will appeal to all potential employees.
The Culture
Yes it was good. the graduates in the office already had a good set up of work events which incorporates the new interns as they enter the company.
My office is located in Beeston (South Nottingham) which is well priced for accommodation. As the office is next to a train station many people quite far from the office and commute in easily. It's also very close to Nottingham so the social life is very good.
Beeston is close to Nottingham to it's very good.
There are a few opportunities for voluntary work organised by the graduates in the office. However I tried to organize football many times during my time here and only managed to get enough people for a game ONCE so in my opinion, it was lacking majorly.
