    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I found the day to be very enjoyable, both the staff and the other students with me on the day were friendly, chatty and approachable. There was a lot of content packed effectively into the day, and I feel like I took a lot away from the day as a whole

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We were given name tags, notebooks, bags and hoodies on the day, which I will definitely remember. The employees tried to address us by name, which I felt was a welcome touch, and they were all very willing to chat with us

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We were given tips for applying to a company like BP, which was greatly appreciated, as this was the first time I had heard a lot of this information. We were also broken up into small groups and given interview practice, which provided some valuable feedback

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that a lot of the information presented in the skills section and interview practice I will take forward in me wherever I go in life, as they are very useful transferable skills to have.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • A lot of content was packed into the day, without any of it feeling rushed or overlong. There was only a small group of students attending, and we were broken into smaller groups as appropriate throughout the day, which worked really well

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • All of the employees and students there seemed friendly, laid back, approachable yet informative. I particularly got the feeling that employees knew many of the other employees at the place, which gave a friendly feeling to the whole day

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think BP definitely wanted us to succeed, as they provided us with a presentation on application tips, including the importance of body language etc..., as well as the mock-interview workshop which provided some useful feedback. We were also given hoodies and notepads, which were a nice touch, and is something that I will appreciate

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Through talking with the current staff on the graduate scheme (which the day was preparing us for), we were able to gain a balanced picture of what the daily life would be like working for BP; from the work itself, to the activities outside of work and the general lifestyle these people have. Finding out this last part was particularly useful, as I wouldn't really be able to appreciate this otherwise

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Throughout the day, the presentations kept on coming back to the company values, and demonstrated how these were put into practice. When speaking to the employees, it was clear that they reflected these in the way they spoke and acted, so I think the day did a good job at helping us to understand the company culture here

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The day placed a large emphasis on the training one would receive with BP, which made me realise how important this would be when working for any company. Whilst the day definitely presented working for BP as an attractive option, I felt like a little more focus on each of the different grad schemes available would leave us with a broader view of the opportunities available

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • BP offered to reimburse the costs of traveling to and from the site, including taxis to and from the station if applicable. If the journey was great enough, they even offered overnight accommodation in a hotel. This gesture was greatly appreciated, and not offering this would have made more reluctant to attend

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We had a 'networking lunch', in which some employees came and chatted to us. Whilst this was useful to some degree, I would have preferred if there was a wider range of employees available, as most of the employees seemed to be from very similar departments (although I respect that this might not have been possible)

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • As with before, they were useful to some degree to get a balanced overview of what life working at BP is like for some employees, but I would have preferred to have heard more from some of the people working within different departments, in order to gain a broader overview

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Through the networking lunch, the employees were very enthusiastic about the activities afforded to them here outside of work. This what made me see working for BP at this site as being so attractive, as it was clear that many of the employees were very involved with this aspect of company life.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • For only one day, this was well organised, balanced and didn't feel rushed. The group was fairly small, which I think made me more willing to get more involved throughout the day. All of the employees were very friendly, and I learned a lot from the day as a whole, so I would not hesitate to recommend this

    5/5
