    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my placement, it has enabled me to feel more confident about myself knowing that I am able to work well in the industry I wish to work in. I have learnt a large number of new skills and personally feel it was been much more beneficial than university.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues made a lot of effort to make me feel like a part of the team. After I had been there a few weeks I already felt like I was treated as an equal as opposed to an intern. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming and happy to help so I could easily approach them if I had any questions.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given tasks and mainly left to figure out how to achieve them on my own. This is not a negative as it allowed me to learn a lot of new skills and develop my understanding. If I was struggling though everyone was more than happy to help.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Usually I was quite busy but there were times where I would not have a huge amount of work to do. This was no fault of my team though as it was when we were moving between projects. I also appreciated these periods as it allowed me to learn more and experience what it would really be like to work at intel.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • After working for a few months at my placement I felt like I was given equal responsibility as the rest of the team. I was completely responsible for certain components of the project and this made me feel like my work was appreciated.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt on placement are better than anything I could have learned at university. These are skills that will stay with me and dramatically improve my employability and performance in future jobs.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in general was very positive and everyone in the office was very friendly. Even when there were times where everyone might not be feeling as good I never felt like there was a negative atmosphere. This definitely made it a more enjoyable place to work at and I appreciated this.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was organised well, I actually had to move office sites during my placement and I was informed of this just before I started my placement. They were able to work with me to help make sure this would not be an issue. Throughput the placement I always knew what I should be doing and that help was there if I needed it.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to make use of programs and tools that I would not of had access to myself and this was an interesting experience. As mentioned previously I was mainly left to learn things by myself which is something I actually enjoyed as it allowed me to gain a better understanding of them.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They definitely like to hire interns that prove they are a worthy member of the organisation. If I was able to work for them again I would love to as I really enjoyed it and I really enjoyed working with the members of my team throughput the placement.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there were lots of events and opportunities to engage with other placement students. Whilst I personally did not participate in these due to my location I cannot comment completely on them. However from what I saw it looked like a large variety of events were offered.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I moved offices I was living in the original office location throughout my placement and so there were higher living costs here. I also had travel costs due to the office move but intel provided me some compensation towards this which was appreciated.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I cannot really comment on this as I never went out in the area but again from other interns views it sounds like it was good. Many of the students went out fairly often and events were often organised to bars and clubs in the area.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are quite a few opportunities especially in volunteering as this is something intel is very keen on. There were also a large number of events both for interns and the company as a whole. You could also join a variety of clubs which offered additional activities and events such as access to gyms.
