    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Despite the incredibly busy and challenging timetable, the activities were very enjoyable as they expanded my knowedge of specific services offered by deloitte and of the company as a whole. It was also enjoyable as it gave us the opportunity to meet so many new, like minded people (and the food was great!).

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We were treated incredibly well by the firm. It was clear that we were valued as all expenses were paid for us and everyone involved in creating and carrying out the programmable had clearly taken time to plan relevant and enjoyable activities.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • If we faced any problems or had any questions there was always an employee to talk to. Thone that ran the event were very meticulous in ensuring that everyone understood how to undertake tasks and how the student scheme at the company works. There was also always someone to show us where to go and we were never left without instruction or direction. Moreover, the networking dinner allowed us to ask whatever questions we had to current female employees in a less formal setting.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was so surprised to find that this insight actually helped me to decide what I might like to do in future. Before the event I was very confused as to what to pursue but after all the activities and talks I now know what section I will apply to intern in. I was also reassured that despite not doing a business related degree, I can persue a career in whichever sector I desire.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The days were very full and despite some activities running over the days finished with time to spare. There wasn't a dull moment in the two days and everything ran smoothly and efficiently with specialists from all departments included in the insight.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was welcoming and made us feel valued. It did not feel as daunting as I expected as everyone was so kind and seemed pleased that we were there and interested in the company. This was much better than experiences I have had in other offices in which I have been made to feel almost like a burden.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We all had the chance to speak to professionals within the company therefore everyone was given an equal opportunity to expand their knowledge. After the event I feel as though I am much more capable in a professional business environment and this training has made me a much more confident person.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • With the number of employees we had the opportunity to talk to and network with both during the days themselves and at the networking dinner, I got a very good idea of how employees view their work across all departments of the firm. I found that everyone I was able to talk to was very honest with their answers and we're also able to tell me some of the downsides of the job or some of the less exciting parts of it to give a well rounded view.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The office itself helped to show that the firm prides itself of professionalism as well as being welcoming as the offices were incredibly neat, clean and open but also bright. The digital office was also very airy and showed off the expertise in the department. We were also informed of how well the firm deals with new families and working from home etc when this is necessary as well as team bonding days and development days.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • As we had activities, exercises and talks focused on different areas of the firm it made the specialisms of the different departments clear which therefore meant it was easy to get a feel for the things I was better at and what I enjoyed most. Before the insight day I was dubious as to whether this sort of job would be suitable for me but now I am keen to try out my chosen sector and am seriously considering going into this as a permanent career.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Deloitte provided us with very high quality accommodation for the one night the event covered including a brilliant 3 course networking dinner including all drinks etc. They also paid for food and drink on both days of the event. On top of this, they provided us with an expenses form at the end of the second day of the event to send off with receipts to cover £50 of transport costs. This didn't cover my entire journey but did cover a significant portion of it.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • A large majority of the event was based around meeting as many employees as possible. The event itself was run by members of the recruitment team however the speakers and experts that came in the help with activities were also very informative. At the networking dinner, 2 employees sat at each table to answer everyone's questions and they rotated between courses so we got to meet as many as possible.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The quality of the networking event was wonderful. It began with a drinks reception which allowed us to talk more with the other participants and find out more about what they wanted to do in the future. We then had a 3 course meal with hosts (employees attending the event) rotating between courses to allow for adequate time to get to know each employee and find out about their department within deloitte. This was also useful as even though they may not have experienced a certain part of the business I.e. travel, they could tell us about people that had.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We were briefly told about activity days some of the departments go on for example, waters ports weekends and raft building etc - potentially team building exercises. However it may have been beneficial to have been given more information regarding the culture of the firm outside of the everyday working environment as it was only touched on at the networking dinner and even then, only talked about when prompted.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I have already messaged friends encouraging them to apply to this event next year as it was such a brilliant and eye opening opportunity. I have especially done so as I know that many people are like me and had no idea what they want to do with their future and I think this was a really good step towards finding someone you're really interested in and could actually see yourself doing.
