    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The Spring into Deloitte insight was fun and interactive and allowed me to learn more about the company, it's values and the different sectors available. The ladies running the insight and the other employees we met were all very helpful and ensured they gave us all the information we required. The only problem with the insight was that most of it was held in the same room over the two days meaning at points people became very tired and bored as there was no fresh air. However, overall the whole experience was insightful and interesting and I met some amazing people.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt quite valued during my time at the firm. As it was only two days there was no chance to actually work in or shadow within the firm but it did always feel like the staff wanted us to be there and succeed. The insight gave plenty of chances to talk to real employees and they always treated us like another person at Deloitte as opposed to people that didn't matter to them and were never patronising. The level that we were looked after during our time there was also excellent, there was a stay in a lovely hotel and all food was provided which made you feel that Deloitte genuinely cared about us being there.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There was plenty of guidance and support offered. We were given sessions on interview success, commercial awareness and how Deloitte are working to ensure diversity and female empowerment. Alongside this we played games which allowed us to learn more about the different areas of Deloitte available for us to go into. Throughout these we were able to talk to employees already in these sectors which allowed for guidance in our own career decision making.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skills I have gained will aid me in my degree and future careers. The information directly about Deloitte will hopefully enable me to progress within their business but also helped me to understand more about future careers in general which will assist me in future decisions. The whole event was very skills focused so I believe that it enabled me to improve my innovation, communication, presentation and particularly analytical skills which will aid me within my degree, in future assessments and for a career. The event also provided me with excellent examples of skills development which I will be able to use in future job interviews.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was quite well structured and was clearly set out to us when we first arrived. However, there were a few times where activities went over the time and certain areas felt very rushed so maybe could have done with being allocated more time or changed slightly to be shorter. Overall though the range of activities and what they taught was very good.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly which made the insight a lot less stressful, especially since we were all in a whole new place. Both the hosts and the other people on the insight were helpful and friendly which I think made a big difference, you could tell that the people within Deloitte wanted you to succeed. There were times when things began to drag a little and I think being in the same room the whole time contributed to this but overall the activities were fun and interesting which contributed to a good overall atmosphere.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As it was only two days there wasn't any training provided but I think there was plenty of skills development that the insight enabled and there is a chance to fast track onto an interview to take part in the summer vacation scheme which certainly shows a level of investment. As already mentioned there were various sessions that directly related to building skills, including a very helpful session on commercial awareness. There is also an interview skills session which seems like a direct investment in the individuals on the placement as it will hopefully enable us to progress in Deloitte in the future.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think the insight began to show us how the different sectors worked but there was still a lot missing in terms of what a general day in the firm would be like. However, we were told a lot about different projects that were ongoing and the kind of things different employees did. The only issue with this is that because they were trying to fit so much in we didn't get a full insight into any of the individual sectors, it was sort of piecing the information together yourself and sometimes it could be confusing as to who was in which position. I think it did give an insight into how the firm treats it's workers and the kind of general work that could be expected from a position though.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I think the insight was very clear in helping us understand the company culture as we got to listen to numerous peoples's experience of working there and heard about a number of policies Deloitte has. There was a session based entirely on female impact and thus Deloitte's policies on gender diversity but there was also the chance to learn about other aspects Deloitte offer there employees such as flexible working. It also showed the company culture was very team based with the projects discussed.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content was valuable in helping with a future career path. It enabled me to learn more about myself and my skills as well as where I would fit in with different careers. From the interactive activities I was able to see which areas of Deloitte would suit me and which wouldn't. I believe that these would also apply to certain jobs at other companies as well which will help me in the future if I did not choose to apply to Deloitte, Besides this it helps you to work on getting onto future Deloitte programs which will further help with deciding on a career path.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The insight offers reimbursement up to £50 on all travel expenses but I also had my accommodation paid for in an amazing hotel, lunch provided both days, a three course evening meal on the first day and breakfast on the second. Therefore, nearly all of your costs are covered for both days of the insight.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was a chance to ask questions and talk to employees in nearly every activity we did. Either through a Q&A or through speaking to them individually. This ranged from learning about the area they worked in to their own experience and what they actually do on a day-to-day basis. There was also the chance to network with various Deloitte employees at a three-course evening meal, here the employees moved around the different tables making it easy to talk to them and learn more.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The opportunities were amazing. There was plenty of chance to talk to other people on the insight and learn more about them, through this I have made some friends that I will definitely stay in contact with and we hope to have a facebook group in case of future interviews and careers advice. Within Deloitte networking with employees was made easy for us, especially over dinner on the first day and within interactive activities.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Some employees shared their individual experiences of volunteering but the insight mainly related to what they did within the working day and in their own specific areas as opposed to what they did outside of work, I think this is something we could have been told more about.

    2/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. I learnt a lot about Deloitte and about myself, had a wonderful time, made great friends and connections and have gained skills for life. The opportunity to fast track to an interview for the summer vacation scheme also makes it worth while.
