    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • 4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I understood that I was performing an important role however I would have enjoyed more responsibility to feel valued.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The technical help was there from most members of my team however guidance/support from my manager was very low.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The department I worked in varied heavily in work load as we would go through patches of extreme stress and then quickly change to having very little work to do. There was not a steady flow of work in my department.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I believe I was given as much responsibility as possible by my department however I would have liked to have been part of a bigger project.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The technical knowledge I have gained has been exceptional and the chance to operate in a high level laboratory has been fantastic. I feel I have returning to my degree an accomplished engineer.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I began my time at the company as a large number of redundancies were made so the office did not have a lot of life and people were concerned for their job safety. After this had passed the team relaxed a little and a comradery developed between myself and the team.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The induction into the department and getting yourself into the system of a large corporation was difficult to start with. Issues (many of which IT and security based) made getting started a very difficult procedure indeed. Once in the system however the organisation of my placement seemed to run smoothly.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I participated in several training courses such as six sigma green belt training and simulated work environment that has helped me develop my team leading, problem solving and manufacturing skills. I would have liked to have been involved in more as having seen other placement students who belong to other departments got to be part of other trainings such as product appreciation and engine appreciation.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The department I was working in felt mismanaged and ramshackle. It also seemed that there was very little room for progression/development. The quality of work produced and the job role its self is very appealing however the environment and stress caused by the management makes me not want to return or at least spend a long career here.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. most of us bonded very well. There were separate groups divided by personalities but everyone generally got on with each other. There have been a few outside of work socials and I have made some great friends.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I worked at home so I feel I cannot comment.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Peterborough is a small town with 2 clubs. The club scene is weak but the pub/bar game is strong.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I had a sport I took part in outside of work and played in a band so my outside of work actives were sorted.

    4/5
