    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Spring into Deloitte was extremely useful. We covered a range of activities such as talks about the service lines, case studies and interview tips as well as a networking dinner at the hotel we were staying at. The organisers worked very hard to make the two days quite relaxed and the icebreaker at the beginning got everybody talking to each other. It was also very well organised.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The hotel that we stayed in was lovely and the company also gave us some money for travel expenses so people were not left out of pocket. We were given plenty of refreshments as well: lunch, breakfast and dinner were provided on both days. The organisers worked hard to make the insight useful from our perspective and a range of people from the company came in to talk to us over the two days.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The organisers were from student recruitment and were always available so that we could ask questions on any aspect of the business. As well as this, people from other aspects of the company were frequently around so we could ask them more detailed questions. The steps for progression were also made very clear.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Whilst the information and activities weren't particularly relevant to my degree they will certainly come in useful for any future interviews, particularly with Deloitte. We were given tips on body language and how to present yourself as well as interview tips which are useful for an interview with any company. We had practice at case studies and group exercises which are particularly relevant to further interviews with Deloitte. We also found out more about the different service lines which is useful in deciding which one was best for you.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • We managed to pack a lot of different things into two days which was useful, but also tiring! At the end of the second day we had a bit of free time and finished slightly early which meant that people had a bit of time to spare before they needed to travel home. Overall it was quite an intense two days, but we were definitely never left with nothing to do!

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The organisers and other members of Deloitte made a big effort to make sure we were all comfortable and relaxed during the insight. A lot of emphasis was placed on asking as many questions as you wanted and the dinner especially was very relaxed too. The icebreaker at the start got all the participants talking to each other and everyone was extremely friendly. There were also a few opportunities for socialising too such as over lunch or after the dinner.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They gave us good preparation for any future interviews with Deloitte. We didn't have much training - it was more of an information event.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • During the insight we got a detailed explanation of each of the service lines and then had an associated group activity with each of them. This helped provide an insight into what the aims of your day to day job would be like in terms of the sort of work you would be doing. Two service lines weren't covered but the main three of tax, financial advisory and audit were all covered in depth.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • We got to meet with a range of people from Deloitte and they all described what the company was like to work for. The general atmosphere of the insight also gave an idea of this, as well as by talking to people over drinks at the networking dinner. There were also staff members present who had worked with other companies previously and they were able to compare their experiences between the two companies.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It gave a good overall view of what a career in Deloitte look like, and provided more information on what a career in financial services might look like so that we were able to make a more informed decision.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Free hotel and meals, travel expenses were paid up to a reasonable budget.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Members of the company from each service line joined us during the day to explain about their particular service line and conduct a related activity. Afterwards there was usually time to ask any questions we may have. There was a networking dinner at the end of the first night where a range people attended from different levels of Deloitte. There were usually one or two people from Deloitte on a table of eight.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • See above - it was nice to have dinner with people from Deloitte on the first night. There were also opportunities for socialising with the other young people after dinner and over meals.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • More information could have been given in this aspect, but given the short length of the insight it was understandable that it did not feature more. However we got a reasonable idea from talking to people and when they explained what life was like at Deloitte. We got an overview of their working from home policy as well as what charity work people can get involved in. There was also quite a lot of discussion about the opportunities that the company gives for travel or secondments.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes - it provided a useful overview of what a career at Deloitte would look like, as well as a look at what sort of company they are.
