Sring programme Review

Attending the Spring Into Deloitte programme 'Local Career:Global Impact' has been a very enjoyable experience for me and I have gained a great insight into the financial services industry and also life at Deloitte. The programme was spread over two days in their Edinburgh office with an overnight stay in a nearby hotel pre-booked for us for the middle night.

I was pleasantly surprised with how friendly everyone was at the firm and thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the Deloitte representatives from HR to all the different service lines who were very welcoming and open to answering any questions or queries that I had. They were very accommodating and provided anything we needed during the two days.

They were very supportive during the two days and offered guidance when needed. We had to complete several case studies across the two days as part of small groups and I thought it was quite nice how they just let us get on with it but still offered support from people working in the industry if we needed it allowing us to develop our knowledge about different service lines they offer.

I believe this programme was very useful in helping me use my teamwork and communication skills during the group work and also allowed me to use any prior knowledge I had of the industry while also continuously learning new things about the company and the sector they operate in. It also gave a good insight into the interview and case studies that they may potentially ask in future selection processes.

The insight programme was well structured and always gave us something to do so we were never sitting around doing nothing. There was a good mix of things to do including listening to talks, taking part in group exercises, presenting and making a video about life at Deloitte and how there are plenty of career opportunities all over the country and not just in London.

The general atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed with the main aim of helping us to get to know Deloitte as a company and what they do. The people I met both from Deloitte and other people on the programme were all friendly and it was nice to work with other like-minded people for the duration of the programme.

Aside from the presentations about the service lines they operate in, they gave us case studies and group exercises to take part in which was specific to the service lines which gave us a good insight into some of the work you could be involved in if you start as a graduate at Deloitte. Furthermore, we had the chance to speak to recent graduates there who were very open to answering any queries we had.

It definitely helped us get a feel for the culture at Deloitte. Although it was only two days, we had the chance to speak to many people at Deloitte and could ask them questions about the culture there. I felt like I had a very good insight into the culture at Deloitte after the programme even though it was only two days long.

The content was valuable in helping me choose a future career path as before the programme I did not have a very good idea about what I want to do. However, this programme has introduced me to areas in finance in good detail helping me decide which career path I want to go down. Also, the added benefit of hopefully doing a summer internship at Deloitte will definitely help me in deciding a career path.

Yes, we had contact with a variety of people from the company and spoke to representatives from different service lines too. We also had a networking dinner in the hotel in the evening which was a nice way to get to know some of the people in a more relaxed environment. Overall, there are definitely networking opportunities if you try.
