    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Yes, very much so. Thoroughly enjoyed working with a variety of different stakeholders internally and externally. Tasks have been demanding but doable at the same time. Had good amount of responsibility, without feeling stressed or upset. Great working environment for an intern, can feel like your having fun and enjoying yourself whilst learning.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Too a large extend, right from the offset the team made me feel welcome, spent time training me up to the standard they desired. Once I had been trained I gained responsibility from the outset, getting given the chance to present internally almost straight away, I found this a good way to gain value from my colleagues. I then spent time working with my customers, before being given the opportunity to meet them and present to them in Cyprus - making me feel extremely valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I feel I was supported fully by my manager and my coach/ team. Never felt like I couldn't ask a question and have been encouraged to ask and develop as much as possible. That being said, you can get out as much as you want from the job in my opinion. If you want to coast in the 'CBA' role you can do that as well, you can get away with the minimum, but I would recommend pushing yourself and there is the tools to develop and learn.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say at the start your time is 99% working, as whilst you are ramping up and training it is pretty full on. After 2/3 months of your job role I find you can complete tasks quicker, then from there you get the opportunity to take on a heavier workload/ responsibility. Now, nearing the end of my placement I have some spare time to work on other aspects other than the core job role.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You get a shed load of responsibility almost from the offset. Straight away I got the opportunity to take on an account, have customer calls, present internally and soon after present externally. I found as the year went on the responsibly level increased slightly as I took a bigger account and travelled aboard to meet customers.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the main thing I have developed to help when I go back to my degree work ethic, It has got me in the routine off 9-5 work, something university does not teach you. Other than that I would say the data analysis side of the job is something that will help me thoroughly in my accounting and data module in my final year.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office is extremely relaxed. It is a great environment to work in with little stress. My team is filled with good bunch of young guys, which all are easy to get along with which I really enjoy working with, At the end of quarter there is slightly more stress with revenue tracking, It is however on the whole a great atmosphere.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Intel's placement scheme is extremely well set up and from my understanding it has been this way for a number years. There is specific intern roles have been set up to work in specific teams and areas based on presences and abilities. There is excellent training from the start with opportunity to work in different areas.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested training from the outset, with training regarding Intel as a whole and the industry. We then got the chance to undertake training in specific areas, i.e. excel, and pivot tables and then the opportunity to undertake presentation training which was excellent. There has been the opportunity to take other classes throughout the year.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are bright in the org. They look to recruit around 50% of interns I believe in my department. I think in other departments i.e.. sales it can be hard to get rehired, but in the operations the chances are there. If you would like to get rehired I believe BMG it the best place to work.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene in Intel is good, however in Swindon there is isn't great. There are a few bars and small night clubs which get busy Thurs - Sat. The social life for intel is good however. There has been loads of free bar events and different social nights out arranged among the interns,

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The costs in the areas are very cheap for living. I am living in a good location, near old town (best nightlife) and fairly near the main part of town. I can also walk to work in 20 minutes and am paying 250gbp plus bills. The bars and clubs are cheaper than London, but not particularly cheap in relation to the rest of the country.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As stated in the previous question, the nightlife is ok. The bars are the best part of the nightlife, as the clubs are pretty budget. Tree is the best club on a Friday or sat. My personal favourite drinking spot is McKenzie's. Good music and a really good vibe on Thursdays to Sat.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there was a lot of activities to get involved in throughout of work. Near the beginning of my internship there was plenty of sports like netball, rounders and basketball. These however are more frequent throughout handover period. As the year progressed there was plenty of BBQ's and team meals. There was also a volunteering day.
