    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement very much, I was helped to get integrated into the team, I received a lot of training and at no given point was I made to feel like an intern that just brings the coffee. I was doing a role which I felt genuinely helped the team and brought value to the company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • After doing any job, my manager would recognize my work on a staff call, he would also give me feedback whenever it was necessary. I felt very much appreciated and valued in the team. My opinion was listened to and respected no matter when it was given and this gave me a great sense of inclusion in the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Every step of the way I received help. If I was ever stuck I could turn to anybody in my team and they would help me out. I was also trained by the intern previous to me who supported me and guided me through the first few months of my placement. It was very helpful and I learned how to do my job effectively.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Since my role was very adhoc I had busy and very quiet periods. However, there was always extra work for me to be doing if I asked. My team was open to me asking other teams for work as well if I had the bandwidth. Thereby you could always be doing something more to help get yourself recognized.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I would say I was given more responsibility than an average intern. My team relied on me to do things which they themselves couldn't do. This made me feel like I am a part of the team and they trust me to do work which is higher priority and higher risk. I was handling our budget too and this meant that my responsibility was quite high.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that my excel skills have developed greatly since starting. I now fully understand why it's so important to know how to use Excel efficiently. I have also developed my communication and presentation skills. I have learned how to communicate with different cultures and people who's first language is not English as well.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was usually quite calm and laid back but people still did their work quickly and efficiently. I would say that people prioritized getting work done but it was never to the extent where you would be made to stay until 8pm in the evening to get everything done.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organized starting from the beginning with a handover period from the old intern as well as a plenitude of trainings to get me up to speed on how the company works. Afterwards I was always checked up on how I was doing and how my placement was going.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would say that from all the training that I've received I've been invested in quite heavily. I have been truly made part of the team and I think that this shows how important it is to Intel to open spaces to hire graduates back who have already been trained as Interns.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would say that they are quite good. If you get offered a job back then you can pretty much go anywhere you would like. You can choose the office which you want to go to as well as the type of job you would like to apply for. It's a good deal, together with the pay as it gives you plenty of flexibility.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was an excellent social environment. The site had over 50 interns and that made for a great community with lots of fun and events. Some of the events we did were pub quizzes, weekend away, handover ball, winter ball, sporting events and sport days. Moreover, there are societies which you can join like Sports and Social, Publishing, Intel Inspire etc.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in Swindon is very low, you can get a house with bills included for about £350 a month with a pay of around £15,000 a year. So, it turns out pretty good. You also get cheap buses and travel so it's great. Socializing is amazing as there are so many things to do in Swindon. Bowling, Laser tag, cinema, paint ball, escape rooms etc.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It wasn't exceptional. There were two clubs and a lot of bars. If you are used to London nightlife or any big city nightlife then you won't be amazed. The perks are mainly that you won't have to pay a lot at all and everything is within the town centre so it's easy to get to.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, if you wanted to get involved in charities, marathons and volunteering work you could do as much as you want. It was encouraged as well, because it would be good to put on your cv as well as good for the company as well. It is more than enough to keep you occupied.
