    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed the placement the culture was incredible. I was in an extremely helpful team and was surrounded by 50+ interns all doing a placement in the UK office. Would defiantly recommend a placement within the organisation, I have gained a great real life experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt apart of the team. All interns working within the company are valued as full time employees with a lot of responsibility. My team would often reach out to help out on many different projects which tested my abilities and always give me feedback regardless of the outcome. I

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The team I work within is EMEA based, meaning none of my team are based in the UK. My manager is based in Europe along with the other members of the team. I still have 1:1 with my manager to talk about the things I have been working on and the plans I have, It is important to be proactive in this role to reach out to my manager for any help as the team is extremely busy. However there are other support networks within Intel which has helped me overcome any barriers.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I am very busy on a daily basis, but this changes throughout different months. It all depends on the project of tasks which you decide to take on for the team. I enjoy being busy rather than being quiet, so I often reach out the team to ask for any additional tasks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots! I had the opportunity to help out with events, to present to the team and to communicate directly with customers. I am treated like a full time employee. There are of course tasks which have to be done as an Intern which ultimately helps the team to be successful, but there are tasks I have completed purely because the team recognise I am willing to put a lot of effort into the execution of tasks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This has been the best experience I could of asked for. Not only has my communication, organisational skills and all the key skills surrounding the business environment improve. The level of knowledge I have about how a multinational operates and all the processes which contribute to the work environment, but the knowledge I have of excel, salesforce and other programmes which will help me in my future careers.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The culture within the office is incredible. We have an open door policy, which mean the office space is all open to allow employees to communicate with each other easily. Everyone who I have communicated with are always so helpful and approachable which has made this experience so much better and enjoyable.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Starting the Internship is a very scary concept, as your life is transitioning from University life to full time paid work. However the whole experience has been easy, fun and enjoyable. There is a 4 week handover period when you begin here, where the intern currently in the job role you applied for teaches you everything you need to know. There is 50 of us in total, and it is a very sociable period. Not only that but there are countless sessions and trainings on Intel and everything surrounding the company which is set up for all new interns.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I am regularly taking part in different trainings and sessions to build my knowledge of the company. The team I work within often helps me to get involved with knew things, and asks which areas I would be interested in. In terms of personal development, I still have university work to complete, which my manager helps me to complete.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • it would defiantly appeal to me to come back and work within the organisation. There are so many levels and job opportunities within the organisation, especially as Intel is worldwide. I have networked with many teams, so I have an idea about the areas of the business I would like to come back into if the opportunity ever arises.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 100%! We have a large intern community and at least go out together once a week. We have had so many different events, its almost as fun as university!!! The social side is incredible and I couldn't ask for better.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live at home, so I pay little rent. I am based in Swindon, so I only have a 10 minute drive to work. Costs in Swindon are average, but its a great location as it is so close to places like Bath and Bristol.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Its great, especially when you are with so many interns. Bath, Bristol and London are also very close, so sometimes its the case of just jumping on a train to surrounding areas!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes tonnes!!! there are many sports and social activities. But also, there are many charity events which we all get involved with. As many interns live so far away, many of them stay within Swindon on weekends, so we all often have trips out of Swindon, meet up at weekends.
