    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was in BMG which was great. You get placed into a full-time team with plenty of responsibility. The team make you feel welcome and you are treated as any normal employee with all the benefits. The placements experience seem to vary across Intel but luckily I had a good experience.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was included in all discussions business related that affected my role. I felt I was a valued member of the team from which you build good business relationships across the corporation. There is a lot of cooperation if you look for it

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support was there whenever i really needed it. You expected to solve problems yourself but if you need any additional advice the 'door is always open' i felt that way within my team. The office is open planned which means support is never far away

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It's up and down. At the start i was very business but that is because I wasn't efficient. As I became better at my job i found I had quite a fair bit of free time. One of the dangers of looking for work late on is that you could be given just admin tasks.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Given plenty of responsibility which again made you feel like an important part the team. I was given critical tasks which have to be done as if not that can be major consequences. As your experience develops you can generally expect more responsibility.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There were a lot of soft skills i developed such as presentation and attention to detail. I also felt my time organisation has improved but nothing specifically that would help me with my degree. The knowledge of certain software etc such help me in the future

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere around the office is good. Always friendly and you get to know a lot of people. My team the atmosphere was great but again i felt lucky to be in my team. this may vary from team to team.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Intel have been having placement student for years. from the moment you start all the way through they are very organised. you receive loads of training throughout. There are also support structures if needed.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were loads of trainings for the team. If you wanted additional trainings such the paid external ones they have these weren't available to interns and usually would say '3+ years of experience'. They don't tend to focus on career development for interns or give you much feedback on how your performing.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The major problem is that Intel are going through heavy cost cutting and there are loads of teams being made redundant, currently the business doesn't feel like a growth company in terms of employment. The business appears to centralising to it's US base decreasing the opportunities in Europe.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a decent to social scene, there's around 60 interns but maybe around 25/20 actively do anything. The only problem is Swindon, Swindon is very small town and there's not much to do at all.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living in Swindon is cheap for the south, rent is very reasonable if you go looking. There are no universities in Swindon so there's no student. The average age on nights out is 30+ so socialising isn't that great.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife and in Swindon is very poor to non-existent. There's one nightclub that's only open on weekend. There's a couple of bars ok bars, however they're in 30+ average in there. If you like cocktail bars etc you won't find a decent one in Swindon.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Intel offer activities to do out of work. They do cater for all ages but there's something to do every couple of months. If your into sports your in a good position as there's loads of sporting opportunities.

    4/5
