    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I've really enjoyed my time here at Intel. In general everyone is so welcoming and friendly here and the intern community we have is great. They really make an effort to make you feel like a well valued member of staff and tend to voice how much of an asset you are to the organisation which is rewarding.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team has been really supportive and welcoming throughout my internship and has really valued my interests when selecting projects for me to get involved in. They really make an effort to make you feel like part of the team and give you the opportunity to lead projects as opposed to doing just traditional 'intern' tasks. They also make a conscious effort to gather your thoughts and opinions where needed and give you the opportunity to shape the efforts of your team as we can give a fresh perspective on a lot of the things they do on a day-to-day basis.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager makes a conscious effort to be in the office every week and even when they're out of the office they ensure that they're contactable through other means whilst ensuring you have a supportive presence in the office should you need it. They also ensure that you have regular 1:1 meetings in place to discuss tasks and projects you are working on as well as discuss any other pressing issues you may have. My team have also always been on hand to provide really good career advice and steps I should take to ensure I come back in a graduate role.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At times there are quiet periods but most of the time I am a good level of busy to make time go by. They give you projects that you can really invest in which keep you busy on a daily basis. At any point where I do feel slightly overwhelmed with the amount of work I have, they are really flexible and on hand to off-load some of your tasks and have appreciated me being honest about my bandwidth.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I've been given a lot of responsibility during my placement such as project management work. I have had the opportunity to manage quite a few projects over the course of my internship among smaller tasks. I've made it clear to my team how much responsibility in tasks I would like and have been really supportive in ensuring I gain project management experience. They also ensure to keep in the loop to help me on things that I am unsure of.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and knowledge I've gained whilst being an intern here at Intel has been invaluable and will greatly assist me in my degree and also within my graduate prospects. You receive a lot of training at the beginning of your internship to equip you for your intern year but it also equips you for life in the workplace after university. The wide range of industry knowledge you get at Intel is great as well as we invest in so many industries from Financial Services to Healthcare.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Although my team makes an effort to lift the atmosphere in the office, it's not the most inspiring or collaborative environment that you'd expect from a leading company in tech and innovation. There isn't a 'buzz' you'd expect from such a leading innovative company at the forefront of technology. However the intern community we have lifts the atmosphere a lot which makes up a lot for this.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement overall has been set up very well and we have a good/well-established internship program in place. They really make an effort at the beginning to ensure you are comfortable and happy in your role and in the company. They also spend a lot of time organising and planning events for interns to attend throughout the year which is also nice. Intel have had a solid intern program in place for years and that shows in the organisation and planning of it.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There is a lot of personal training and development opportunities available but it's up to you to put the effort in. Although there are training opportunities and career development talks etc. that you can attend it is up to you as to whether you attend them or not. A lot of the regular training does tend to be quite technical and the skills and career development training is available at least once a month - again it is up to you to put the effort in and depends on your bandwidth.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The employment prospects in Intel are quite appealing especially if you are looking to eventually move to the US as there are lots of opportunities for progression over there. Luckily, I have had exposure to different business units and my team has made an effort to ensure I'm networking with the correct people. You also have the opportunity to work within different business units from finance to marketing which broadens your skills and knowledge not only within the company but within the industry.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We have one of the best intern communities here in Intel compared to what I've heard from my other friends on their placement years. We have such a good social scene and sports and social intern committee ensuring there is always something exciting planned socially. There are also lots of site wide events where we can socialise externally with our team and our team makes an effort to do team dinners and team events.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Generally the cost of living here in Swindon is good based on what I hear from the other interns, hence why I've given it 9 stars. I've commuted from Bristol during my placement year as that's where my university is based and I already had accommodation in place. Swindon in general is well priced for socialising.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Swindon is fairly limited but still good. It obviously depends who you're out with but there are a lot of intern events organised which ensures you a good night no matter where you are - in a club, bar or pub etc. Places like Bath and Bristol which have good nightlife also aren't far away which you can enjoy.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there are lots of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. Intel has lots of volunteering, charity and sporting opportunities. The corporate games is also an exciting opportunity to get involved in if you can!
