    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Intel. I got the chance to get involved in any projects that have interested me and really added value to the company. I also traveled to numerous European countries with work. With so many other interns based in Swindon, it creates a supportive, fun and mutually hard working environment to be in. We also had a handover period, which was really fun (nights out, days away etc.)

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues would also ask me to get involved in big projects, which was great as you really felt valued. As I worked in sales, my colleagues were travelling a lot and would ask for a lot of ad hoc requests. They would always be grateful for the work I would produce at short notice.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Working within as a sales support analyst meant that all of my team were within field sales and constantly travelling. They were based all over Europe and the Middle East, so time differences & travelling sometimes meant that you could always reach out. Although I was aware that the role was very independent before I started so this wasn't an issue for me at all. My manager was also really great, we had 1:1 bi-weekly and he was extremely supportive and encouraging.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload throughout the year fluctuated from being moderately busy to very busy. At Intel you can pick up extra projects in different departments than your own if you feel like you have bandwidth, they are really great with that. Also my manager was really good with helping me to prioritize my time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like I had lots of responsibility throughout my placement, for example- I regularly carried out some very through marketing data analysis which helped to articulate Intel 2017 strategy as well as make the right investment decisions. I was involved in STEM training and I became an official STEM ambassador-. I was involved in a project known as ‘Girl GEEK’s’ where I was going into schools and teaching girls about the benefits of a career in STEM subjects. I carried out various Project Management projects for my team, where I organised the travel, accommodation, logistics, catering and payment.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Intel gives you the opportunity to develop/ gain skills. You can shadow/get involved with different departments which is great for figuring out what you would enjoy/ not enjoy in a future career. They also hold numerous trainings which help to boost personal development and industry knowledge. I feel like the skills I learnt here will be incrementally helpful when i'm back in Uni and in a grad job.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I sat beside the other Sales interns all year. Most of them like myself had no team based in the office regularly. This was great as we helped each other a lot and created a support network. We all got on so well and it created a really productive environment. Intel prides itself with being a Great Place to Work, and has lots of little perks. Such as, at Easter, all employees received an Easter egg- really small gesture but it brightens up the office life!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • When you return to Intel as a grad you return to the Business Management Group. The grads who come back usually work within this group during their internship. Working in Sales as an intern, it is unlikely that you can return back into Sales as a Grad. Although I shadowed in the Business Management Group during my internship would be happy to return through this stream.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • So good! We had around 50 interns in Swindon, which made such a great environment. We had regular nights out, weekend breaks and fun nights in. Swindon is fine, you just need to take it for what it is! You have so many other intern that no matter where you go you'll have a good time, plus we often went to Bristol, Bath, London etc.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Swindon is pretty standard when it comes to the cost of living. I shared a house with 3 other female interns that was close to work and that rent was £330 per month. The house was lovely too! Going out cost is also quite reasonable, we would usually have pre-drinks with lots of other interns before heading out which keeps that cost down.

  • It was good. We had around 50 interns in Swindon, which made such a great environment. We had regular nights out, weekend breaks and fun nights in. • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Intel give you lots of opportunities. I was involved in Women in Intel and through this group I attended some Connecting Women in Technology events. They gave me a chance to network with influential women in various big tech companies and learn more about the support available in the tech community.
