    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed working at Islamic Relief. The people were very kind and welcoming. The office was rather small so there was a better chance of getting to know everyone, but not just members of my department. Everyone got on very well through personal relations as well was working professionaly. It was a great envioroment to work in. At thr beginning it took sometime to trust me certain tasks as I was a intern after all. However after a week or so my colleagues were able to identify my strenghs and push them furthur during the internahip.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My department were extremly welcoming and kind. They were aware that i am here to learn and and build on my skills, there for they didnt expect me to know everything. I was set intresting tasks and gave me an insight into the kind of work i will most likely be involved in with other jobs.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Throughout my internahip i was under the guidance of a senior designer who was extremly patient and supportive. He would sit next to me so we could constantly look over each others work to stay on track as well as guide me through the different briefs. It was a great experiance to watch the way he worked and the type of work he did as a senior designer. It gave me a great deal of insight into the skills i would need to build inorder to reach that level.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Islamic relief is a humanatarian organisation, therefor the scale of the tasks are based on the the apeals and tragedys around the world that we need to rause awareness for. Sometimes it can grt rxtremly busy however there are times were there is a lack of work to do because of this. However majority of the time i always had something keeping me busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • With certain projects i was given more responsibility than others. My tasks were not always to the level of the senior designer however that was expected. Some of the tasks were extremly important and needed completed in a short period of time. Which is great as it was impirtant to me to experiance a working envioroment if i had been an employee and not an intern.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I definitely feel like I walked away with a great deal of knowledge and skill. Most importantly be able to respond to breifs effeciantly within a tight deadline. We often grt more time to complete tasks during university however in a working envioroment there were times i needed to complete work within a few hours. I also pushed my skills in Photoshop and imagery.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a calmong atmosphere. As mentioned before it is a rather small office so it can get quiet. However everyone got along and often chatted amongst them self. It was a nice working envioroment. Everyone worked professionally getting the work done as well as getting to know the colleagues. Out of all my internships i think ialamic relief had a great office atmosphere.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • They qrre pretty organised. But like i said before the work load really depends on the apeals that were happening at the time. So there were times were it was slightly disorganised on the lack for me to complete however i think that was understanderble due to the nature of the organisation.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would say there was a great deal of support and guidance provided to me as an intern. I had a senior designer to work along side through out my internahip as well as a manager who looked over my progress and my needs through out. There was also another internship co ordinator who had meetings with me to go over what i can achieve. He also organised many workshops for the interns to visit to push their skills.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Islamic relief is a great place to push your skills and gain valuable experiance but not put outside of your comfort zone and expected to know everything. The organisatiob ia very understanding and arr well aware we as interna are there to learn and grow. Interns will always be surrounded by support and guidance.

  • When I started as an intern there were only 3 other interns. So sometimes its quite hard as you dont have many people in the aame boat as you. However the volenteers coordinator often organised events to puah or skills and talents as well aa getting to know the other interns. It did help in connecting us more and colaboraiting as well worked.
