    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My work placement at Chelsea Football Club was incredibly interesting. I feel it was enjoyable due to the fact I was treated like a normal staff member, and not considered “just a placement student”. The workplace was fun, the people were amazing and the opportunity was extraordinary. I have rated this a 10 because it was really incredible!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Similarly, to the question above, I feel Chelsea FC as an employer make you feel very valued. My colleagues worked closely with me and I felt the work I was doing made a real impact. Overall I would say I was treated very well and felt incredibly valued by everyone within my team, and also by the organisation as a whole.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Rated this a 10 because my manager was very supportive. If I was ever stuck or found something difficult she would have a solution, without question. She also helped out a lot in the beginning by making sure I was comfortable with what I was doing etc. I felt I managed to fit in the team fairly quick due to this too. As well as this, there are also regular review periods- allowing myself and my manager to discuss further checkpoints and what I hope to gain from this experience.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Working in a CRM department workload can vary. Most of the time I was busy, however there have been a few times where there were very few campaigns to go out and not much ad-hoc work to do. However, I used to try and ask for additional tasks or help other team members with extra tasks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel I have gained numerous skills since starting my placement. Some of these skills are considered basic competencies of which I have improved, however I feel I have also gained some technical knowledge into the industry too. I feel fairly confident using campaigning tools now which I believe can help when pursuing a career in the CRM sector at a later date.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel I was given the right amount of responsibility. I was not treated like an assistant, but more like an official member of the team. My team worked closely with one another and I feel my team valued myself too. This made me feel great, and I feel because of this I performed better at my job.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was friendly and pretty relaxed. I felt I fit in well with the atmosphere, people and office. The office was located within the grounds of Stamford Bridge, so it seemed to be pretty cool. I do not think all offices would be similar to this, and it depends on the department too. I thought I was quite lucky with the location of my office! And the atmosphere was really good.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very good structure. Being the first placement student in this role I was quite surprised. My manager had spent a lot of time with the team to run me through things. In my first few weeks I spent time meeting various department heads, team members etc. It was a great set-up.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had the option to do pretty much any training courses I wanted. I told my manager in reviews about what I wanted to develop skills in. I have been on various courses, and attended various conferences. I would say that Chelsea are incredibly good at developing and training staff. This is something that most people would consider important too.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare/Dental

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is no graduate scheme at Chelsea FC, however this does not mean you cannot re-apply for a full time role if one becomes available. I would definitely consider applying to Chelsea FC in the future if a role does become available, as I believe it is somewhere I would fit in.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is only one other placement colleague currently- but we got on very well, as we were in the same scenario. Additionally, everyone seems to be pretty social. There are various events every so often- and there are often team drinks, lunches etc. Overall I have rated the social atmosphere 8/10.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home so there were not rental costs for me. However, the cost of local shops range. There are many places to go for lunch- some range from £20 to a meal to a £2 McDonalds. Being located a minutes walk from a train station (Fulham Broadway St) which has many places to eat lunch at, is perfect. Staff also get a discount so lunches are fairly well priced. I have only brought lunch to work one day!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Fairly quiet. Although central London is easily accessible so there is no real reason for this area to be incredibly outgoing. Fulham has many bars and pubs however I spent most evenings (going out) in central London or nearer my home. I am sure there are some places to go out near Chelsea if needs be.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Chelsea do not tend to have many opportunities to get involved with outside work, other than football matches. Staff can go to games which is good- and can provide something to do on the weekends that they play at home. This is the main activity you can do with work as there is not much else. The company do promote you to do things such as cycling with help to cycle schemes etc.
