    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the Open Day extensively. It was well organised and I think the separation of the exercise/networking and drinks after the presentations worked well. There was also plenty of opportunities to ask questions and the range of speakers meant that I gained a varied insight into the culture of the firm. My highlight was the commercial exercise. I felt it was unique compared to other group activities I've had, and as a group, we were able to explore the commercial issues more thoroughly.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Everyone that I met was very welcoming, especially during the trainee lunch. They were open to asking questions about their routes into the firm and appeared very passionate about the firm.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • It was a very well organised day and This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions we were informed on the agenda so we were well looked after.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although I had my expectations of the firm, I think attending the open day has exceeded them. Having the presentation on personal impact/application form has helped me understand what the firm is looking for, how I could improve my answers to the application form to increase my chances of being successful, and boosted my confidence in the process.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was well organised and I felt like we had a varied experience: mix of presentations and practical exercises.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I had a fun time at the open day. Alongside meeting all the friendly representatives at Taylor Wessing, the other attendees were very amicable as well.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The experience was only an open day so there weren't many opportunities to develop the attendees personally. However, I was impressed by how open and eager they were to offer us skills sessions and provide advice on many things that applicants are often worried about. For example, I particularly enjoyed the Ted Talk video on stage fright as it was helpful in understanding presentation jitters and the type of thinking that would be able to overcome it. Additionally, being able to understand the structure of the application process and the types of mistakes that people frequently make means that I can better try and avoid it in the future.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight helped me understand what was needed by the firm by organising presentations from different departments and positions. This meant that we could ask questions and have a range of answers to draw conclusions for. My favourite question was on the firm's strategy, which is a topic that is often difficult to understand from the brochure, so that was well-answered and boosted my understanding of how Taylor Wessing is ran.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight day definitely boosted my understanding of the company culture. This was very obvious in the trainee lunch when i was able to converse with numerous trainees and gain an understanding of their routes in the firm and their experiences in their department. I enjoyed hearing about how closely supervised trainees were and how the open-door policy has meant that they felt supported and valued.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the day involved an introduction to the firm which was detailed and helped me understand the strategies, values, and types of work that comprised a law firm. Although I am committed to pursuing this career, I felt like gaining a more personal insight into how a law firm in 2016 works and has enabled itself to be successful has boosted my motivation for working for one.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I had to travel from Leicester to London for the open day so I was very pleased to have my full travel expenses reimbursed. The process was simple, composing of a single form, and completed at the beginning. Similarly, there were plenty of refreshments available in the main room we were hosted and the lunch that was provided was plentiful and filling.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were plenty of networking opportunities available at the 1 day event. The main opportunity was during the trainee lunch where there was such a high attendance that I felt like I gained a fuller picture of the different departments of the firm by speaking to the representatives. There was also the drinks reception hosted afterwards where we were able to speak to a few more trainees and [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] Graduate Recruitment.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were well organised and well-attended. I was able to speak trainees from the Employment department and they informed me of the types of high-profile cases they worked on, as well as how the work is organised by supervisors. I was pleased to hear about the level of responsibility they received as well as the high quality of training available.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • During the networking opportunities, I was able to pose questions to trainees about the type of work they were involved in. They informed me of many activities such as marathons in Vienna, self-organised drinks and meals with trainees, as well as drinks with future joiners. Alongside this, it was great hearing about the Trainee Solicitors committee and the types of pro bono initiatives that lawyers are encouraged to join.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would highly recommend this insight to anyone considering a legal career in the city. I feel like Taylor Wessing is a unique firm with highly attractive qualities that many students would be interested in learning more about. Considering that they do not attend the law fair at my university, I felt like attending the open day offered me a more bespoke opportunity to learn about the firm and I really enjoyed meeting all the representatives that offered their time.
