The Role
The job itself, wasn't the best as it was always quite busy, but the people you work with heavily made up for it in my branch.
By my immediate manager (branch and assistant branch manager) very much so, gave praise where it was needed, by area manager/company not so much you were easily replaceable.
I mainly worked in two branches during my placement and management within the branch were great when they had the chance, with regards to support. however, as previously mentioned is a busy environment so it made it difficult
Dependent on your branch you'll have your days. The branches i worked in were open 6 days a week and they were generally moderately busy on a day to day basis, but like most places we had extremely busy periods and some dead days
As an intern you do everything a permanent management trainee/graduate would do and you get the same opportunities
I believe a lot of the skills i learnt were invaluable. helped my confidence, communication, time management, managerial skills, organisation, time keeping, the list could go on.
The Company
Majority of the time the atmosphere was bubbly, warm, welcoming and full of life. More or less nonstop fun
During training and everything at head office a clear structure was given, however, once you get into your branch that kind of goes all out of the window. For example, 9 months within my placement i was asked to cover at another branch for 2 weeks, which turned into 3 months and i never had an opportunity to say bye to old team as my cover turned into being there permanently. (thanks a lot area manager! - even my branch manager didn't know i wasn't coming back)
Management tried, although due to days being so unpredictable there was only so much that could be done.
Financial Bonus
I would not mind returning, perhaps just to head office or another aspect of enterprise rather than their branches. I feel there were good opportunities to develop both within the retail aspect of the business/branches but also in other aspects e.g. it department, hr, finance etc. Branches are just easier and quicker/the pay is better with promotions. Getting promoted in a branch is like being in a lift, whereas from the sounds of it a promotion in house is like walking up stairs. Bright side you have a guaranteed graduate position
The Culture
AMAZING! within my branch and also other branches in my area
lived at home during placement so my only expenses were really maintaining my lifestyle/having fun. Local bars/pubs/clubs/restaurants and all that other socialising activities stuff in the area were pretty good, well for london anyway.
Absolutely great, nothing quite like having a hard day at work, then going out with your colleagues after to de stress
Yeah Enterprise were always encouraging us to do things within the community. e.g. charity golf with 'celebrities', charity car washes etc. It was just up to you to get involved
