The Role
I had a great time at Heathrow. I learnt airport specific knowledge such as how all the different components fit together to make the operation run smoothly. I also learnt a large amount of business skills such as communications, time management and public speaking. Overall it was a very beneficial experience.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. My opinion was valued in the team meetings and I was asked to present at a few.
From the start of my placement I always had support and guidance when ever I wanted it. It was great to be able to get the opinion from a colleague who had a large amount of experience to help me develop myself.
I always had pieces of work to be getting on with.
My team trusted me to take full ownership of projects at Heathrow.
I can't thank Heathrow enough for the opportunity they have given me in doing the internship. I developed a huge amount of new skills and confidence which will help me for years to come. Being back at university now I am a lot more proactive and find it easier to manage my work loads and stay motivated.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office and around the airport was great. Everyone was friendly and easy to get on with, there was good banter between colleagues which made socialising easier.
The placement was organized well. It started with a week long induction to the company followed by a week of us settling into our business areas. We had regular catch ups with our mentors to make sure we were on the right track and getting the most out of our placements.
The company did invest in the interns, we were lucky enough to take part in a number of courses such as presentation skills, insights into our business behaviors and first aid courses. There was also lots of opportunity around the airport to spend time with other business areas. Examples of this included the airside team, terminal management and security teams. We were encouraged to see as much as the airport as possible.

The Culture
There was a group of 11 interns all of which were or had recently been students. We had a good social scene meeting up in London for drinks after work and spending lunch together at work.
London, so it was super expensive!
Heathrow is a long way out of London, but with the night tube coming in on the Piccadilly line it makes it more accessible- expensive though!
Yes, Heathrow offered sports classes and dancing lessons. There was also charity events going on throughout the year such as the midnight marathon, colleagues ran down the runway at midnight for charity.
