The Role
I enjoyed it a lot.
Initially I felt intimidated by almost everyone on my team having a PhD. However, while being much smarter than me, my colleagues were also very smart and helpful.
My manager was always available to answer any questions I had.
Whenever I was not working on the project, I was learning the tools I needed to advance.
I was given a task which gave me insight into all aspects of data science and whose outcome had a measurable impact on the running of the business.
I learnt plenty of useful tools I would not have the occasion to work with elsewhere, such as Apache Spark, HiveQL, or scikit-learn.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly.
Overall organisation was okay, however at the very start I had to wait for my computer to be ready and I sometimes experienced problems with the Internet connection.
I spent a substantial part of my internship learning Python and software frameworks that I needed to work on my project.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I discussed possibility of future employment with the team lead, however I have decided to do a PhD.
The Culture
I didn't spend much time talking to interns in other teams.
Reasonable.
In terms of nightlife, London has all you could ever wish for.
The company often organised social and sports events for employees.
