    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working at Amadeus was very enjoyable, the working environment was comfortable and the day to day work was captivating. Also, the opportunities that are provided to you are extremely rewarding. Whilst I was employed there (June 2015 - June 2016) I took part in multiple days out, work gatherings and, most rewarding of all, raising money for charity with 20 others by running a Tough Mudder in April. Working at Amadeus is more than Monday to Friday, there is real opportunity to challenge and enjoy yourself. The only negative I can think of is the location, being near an airport means there is little in the way of place to go on breaks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I believe everyone at Amadeus truly valued me and all the other interns during my time. They treated us as equals and never as errand runners. The more senior members would assist us when we needed help and we would assist them if they needed help; they would never expect you do to something they wouldn't do in return. Amadeus is a friendly, kind and helpful place to work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Amadeus is a complex company and the learning curve is quite steep. During the beginning of the internship you need to ask lots of questions to make sure what you're doing is correct, throughout this period my supervisor was extremely patient and actually enjoyed helping the interns get up to speed. There is never a lack of support and guidance at Amadeus, managers and supervisors are more than happy to help whenever you need it. They are also extremely happy to take time out of their schedules to sit down with you and guide you through portfolios or upcoming activities.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most internships at Amadeus have the same problem when it comes to workload. Different months of the year yield different amounts of work, during months such as December, very little work falls on your desk and you find yourself searching for tasks to complete. Whereas busier months such as April, there seems to be too much work and you find yourself working increasingly hard to keep up with deadlines. Nonetheless, there are steady months but these fluctuations are an annoyance.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my time at Amadeus I was given a decent amount of responsibility, with a portfolio of around 100 customers that all needed to be in contract, called to up sell further solutions and they needed to be kept happy with the service. However, sometimes actions needed to be taking out of our hands and given to a more senior member of staff.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working at Amadeus helps you develop skills extremely well, since returning to university I have really seen the impact working at Amadeus has made to my skill set. I have become a much more efficient and hard worker. I am more vocal within a group and I am able to break down problems and solve them with better outcomes. However, most of all working at Amadeus has made me much more ambitious. I genuinely believe that working at Amadeus has made me a better worker and person.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere during the beginning days of each work was electric. Lots of employees all in a great mood and ready to get the week off to a good start. This progressively declined over the week, with Friday normally being a fraction attendance as many worked from home. Friday was quieter and usually a harder day to get through because of the lack of atmosphere. However, overall the office was a fun and nice place to work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was relatively new when I started, with it being the second year they had introduced two interns to share to role that one person had felt with previously. This showed at times when new roles and weekly tasks were introduced and gaps in information appeared. Nonetheless, during my time there myself and the other intern started to develop new materials for the next set of interns to use to make it more seamless.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Amadeus believe in investing in their employees because their industry is highly competitive they want to keep you at Amadeus rather than going to a competitor. They offer all the training sessions they give to customer for you to develop your product knowledge and the value of the product to the customer. They believe every member of the team to be integral to the company therefore train and develop you as much as they can. However, they do not offer a graduate scheme to pair with their placement scheme which would in my eyes increase the level of development they put into their placement students.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Coming back to Amadeus is an option but the route into a full-time position is harder because as I stated there is no graduate schemes available, so it is likely you will be competing for a the next position against experienced adults. I believe this lack of a graduate scheme really hinders my future prospects with Amadeus and also others' prospects.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was only 4 placement students at Amadeus, therefore there wasn't a huge social scene but all the placements students got along very well. We all shared lunch and break times together and went for lunch and drinks on occasion. All the placements students also lived in different cities making a long commute so it was very unfrequent.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being located near an airport meant that there was little places to go outside of the airport. The airport had a lot of places to go and socialise e.g. go for food or a drink. However, the cost was very high and would be very unaffordable if it was done on a regular basis, therefore it was avoided a lot of the time.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Being located near an airport meant that there was little places to go outside of the airport. The airport had a lot of places to go and socialise e.g. go for food or a drink. However, there was no clubs or nightlife available in that area. Which is why all the placement students made the decision to live outside the area and commute each day.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was lots of opportunities to get involved outside of work. When I was at Amadeus I took part in Tough Mudder, which is a half marathon distance obstacle course through mud. We raised around £3000 for charity. Amadeus has a social team that look to organise activities like this on a regular basis to help the entire team to get involved.
