    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship with KPMG. The experience was very rewarding and all of the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by colleagues and it was clear that they appreciated the extra help as there was often a lot of work to do. There were times that there was little that I could have done to help as there was no one available to show me how to do the work or it was too complicated to explain however this didn't happen too often and I was kept busy more of the time.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Throughout the whole process I didn't feel as if any question was a stupid question and I never felt in a position where I couldn't ask for help. I had never done anything like this before but my colleagues were always willing to help when I was struggling and explain everything twice if I needed.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most of the time I was kept quite busy. There were a few times that I had to do the less exciting tasks such as casting if there was nothing else I could have done.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot more responsibility than expected. I didn't expect to be doing work that would actually add to the audit of companies. This was very rewarding and made the work feel more worthwhile.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel like I learnt a great deal during my time with KPMG which will help a lot with my final year and when I join the firm next year.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was friendly and professional. Colleagues were generally very approachable and friendly and would often offer to do drinks runs which helped with getting to know people. I was very nervous before the internship however I was put at ease and made to feel welcome from my first day.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I couldn't really fault the organisation of the placement. It was ensured that I always had a job to go to and if we finished that job early another one was organised for me. Additionally the in-charge would always email me before a job began to make sure I knew the address and had a way to get to the clients office.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was never left to do work without my colleagues first explaining what I had to do and why it had to be done. I found this particularly helpful as generally I work better if I know the reason for doing it and how it added to the audit. Additionally I could ask any question about auditing or KPMG in general and I would always be given a clear answer. This was helpful when deciding whether the company and role would be right for me as a career.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects within KPMG are very appealing as working for such a highly respected company opens a lot of doors. I liked that KPMG seem to always be willing to help if you are struggling with a particular aspect of the job. For example if you think a particular department is more suited to you than the one you are in then moving you can be considered. Or if you would like to travel then secondments are available within the company.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we went to York races one day and I was often invited to drinks or lunches with colleagues. Bowling and a meal was also organised for the interns and some of the graduates came along which gave us a chance to ask them questions about working with KPMG. There seemed to be always something going on or something to look forward to which really attracted me towards working for the firm.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived and commuted from home so that wasn't really an issue. Leeds isn't a cheap city but that is to be expected in all big cities in the country. A lot of the time colleagues knew the best places to go to get good deals and we sometimes got discounts through the firm.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Leeds is really good and there is something for everyone. There are lots of bars, restaurants and clubs to choose from and it is suitable for both students and older adults which I really like about the city as although I am a student now that won't always be the case.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yeah there were always events going on and we were kept well informed about them. I was often invited out for lunches or drinks during my internship. Also there were emails send around regularly with information about any sports teams you could join or yoga mornings you could go to.
