The Role
ASOS feel like it is a small business, not the international fashion company it is. The head of office is open and bright with plenty always going on! Although only there for 8 weeks, I was lucky enough to make a real difference with my product actually being released and now in use. Considering when I first joined the project didn't even exist this was surprising even for me, I know for a fact other places I have interned at this would have taken 6months>12months.
I was never felt to feel like an intern but always a valued member of staff, parting taken in regular team meetings and demos. I was thrown in the deep end starting (which I personally like) with regards to my role meaning past experience helped a lot!
Guidance and help was never too far away, everyone in the team was always more than happy to spare a moment to help you and take time away from their work to listen and help.
My days varied a lot, some days were a lot busier than others the work load depended on the development teams progress. But if I were ever free I was roped into other team members projects for opinions and to help out.
I worked on an internal project were the stakes were not as high as external pieces therefore and mistakes could be made with less time pressures. However, I was the sole designer on my project which meant I often had to lead the development of the project and align to development sprints.
I was able to learn new software skills which I have since used at University.
The Company
ASOS is a lively place! There is always something going on whether it be in your team or the teams around you on your floor. Everyday is never the same!
The placement was well organised apart from a few external factors which slowed down the projects development. This sort of thing always happens from time to time.
Due to the nature of my placement length very little time was allocated to training (which didn't bother me).
