Audit work experience Review

The insight was a very good experience which I thoroughly enjoyed. Everyone at BDO was very welcoming and helpful. During my 2 weeks there, I was able to work with different clients and many people from the office, which gave me experience as to what it would be like to work at a company such as BDO on a daily basis.

I was very happy with how valued I felt in my time at BDO. I was treated as part of the team, and given meaningful work that kept me busy. Everyone at BDO were happy to help me with the work I was given when I didn't fully understand what I had to do.

I received sufficient support from BDO during my 2 weeks there. They were all happy to help me with the work I was given, and they gladly explained what they were doing fully to me, in order for me to gain full understanding of the job. Also, I had a 'counsellor' and a 'buddy' during my time there, who both helped me during the 2 weeks and made sure I was doing okay.

After my 2 week placement at BDO, they offered me a place on their school leaver programme, which I accepted, so I would say that the information I received during my time there assisted me in my decision greatly to take up that opportunity. The skills I developed at BDO will help me when it comes to the start of the job, as I will already know how to do some of the things I will learn.

The insight was very well structured. We spent the first day down in London getting to know everyone and being explained to about what we were going to do. We then went to our respective offices, where we were sent out to clients and introduced to everyone in the office. They had work for us to do each day, so we weren't stuck in the office with nothing to do.

The general atmosphere was good during my time there and everybody made you feel valued. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful and there was a peaceful atmosphere throughout the office. There was never a dull day while I was there and everyone was happy to help me with the work I was given when I didn't fully understand it.

The insight helped me to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company quite a lot. I was able to take on the work everyone does on a daily basis so I managed to get a full understanding of how BDO worked and what I would be doing if I came for a job there. This was very valuable to me as when I start next September, there will be no surprises and I will know what to do.

I found the content of the day very valuable in helping me to decide on my future career path as it helped me decide to apply for BDO's summer school programme and later accept the offer from them to start working for them September 2017. The content helped me realise that I want to pursue a career in accountancy.

I was paid £200 for the 2 weeks I completed at BDO. This helped me with the cost of accommodation as it was quite expensive. However, it didn't fully cover all the costs throughout the 2 weeks, but BDO did cover the expenses of travel to and from London on the first day of the 2 week work experience.

I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend as it was very helpful in helping me decide what I want to do in the future. It was a very valuable experience which I would definitely do again. If anyone is interested in a job in accounting in the future, I would recommend doing this insight as it shows you what a job would be like in your chosen field.
