    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found that the variety of work that was given to me made it very interesting. I learnt a lot about the auditing process as well as general accounting principles. There was also a great working atmosphere and the people there made the experience really enjoyable.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was entrusted with more responsibility than I expected, having to complete some tasks independently, so this made me feel very valued. In the teams I worked in, I was treated with like everyone else and given similar levels of responsibility to that of an associate.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The people in my team, and everyone in the office, were always happy to answer any questions I had and they provided loads of support if I needed any help. I was also given a people manager and a buddy, both of which I could go and talk to any time if I had an issue.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was kept busy but I was never stressed out with the amount of work I had to do, nor did I have to frequently work beyond my working hours. There were times where I didn't have much to do, but there were always things other than audit work to keep you busy, such as e-learns, the Dragon's Den Challenge, answering emails etc.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As said above, I was given a good level of responsibility, especially for an intern, and this made me feel as though I was really adding value to the audit work. I wasn't pressured with responsibility though as all work had to be reviewed by a more senior colleague anyway.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt new auditing skills, which I developed during my time there, and these will definitely help with a future career in audit/assurance. I also learnt a lot more about Excel and how useful it is, and I think these skills are applicable to anything, I also felt like I became more confident, which is also vital for any career path.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone in the office was really sociable and fun, which made for a great working atmosphere. I found it really easy to get in touch with my team if they weren’t in the office. There was an end of month drinks and the opportunity to play football every Monday, which was a great way to get to know other people in the office.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was really well organised - the residential induction at the beginning was great and I was given a timetable in my first week of all the jobs I was booked on for the 6 weeks I was there. If I ever found myself with nothing to do, I could easily contact resourcing to find work.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the residential induction, there were tutorial sessions to help us get to grips with fundamental auditing principles and the computer programs used for audit, which were actually quite fun! We were also given laptops with all the necessary software that we used for all audit work over the course of the internship.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think the majority of summer interns are offered a graduate job at the end, provided that you work hard. Once you have finished your ACA after becoming a graduate, there is a lot of flexibility to move between different areas. In Assurance especially, there is a lot of opportunity to travel to different client’s offices.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was very easy to get to know everyone in the office through social events, like end of month drinks, and football every Monday. We also regularly went for lunch in our teams, which provided more opportunity to talk to everybody.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
