The Role
I fully enjoyed my internship here! Overall, I feel that the experience I was provided here was exactly what I hoped for; an opportunity to learn and develop my skills whilst being able to contribute to the team.
I definitely feel that I am treated an important member of the HR team, with the ability to add value to the processes, tasks and projects we are responsible for. Over the internship, I have been able to take over BAU tasks and small projects, without any pressure to take on too much or left feeling unable to ask for help. I have also been able to pursue the parts of the job that best suit my skills and interest me.
The HR team have consistently been happy and willing to answer my questions, no matter how small! My manager has always made time to support me whether through our weekly catch-ups or taking the odd 5 minutes to talk me through something. From direct on-the-job training, external training to simply observing how my colleagues approach their work, I feel I have definitely been given the support to succeed in my role.
Generally, I have been fairly busy throughout my entire internship meaning I have always had a new task or project to work on. There has definitely been some busier periods but I’ve never felt overwhelmed by it.
As I’ve grown in ability and confidence I have been given a number of responsibilities. These include BAU tasks such as the monthly payroll run and creating contracts, as well as projects to improve our HRIS. When I asked to take on more responsibility, my manager looked to find additional HR projects which I could become involved in.
When I graduated from university, I was unsure as to how to apply the knowledge and skills from my degree. I have been able to use a lot of this within the internship, as well as learning practical skills. I definitely feel that I will be able to build from this role.
The Company
Everyone in our office is approachable and friendly. I've found that everyone settles into the company pretty well, with teams and social groups happy to welcome new people. Most of my colleagues are happy to have a chat over tea and food, which makes it a lot more relaxed and informal.
In terms of the intern scheme, there was a lot of focus aimed towards the summer months when there were more interns at the company. We were provided with training sessions, opportunities to talk with the Exec Team and plenty of social activities. This tailed off a lot by early September, but by that point I had fully settled into my role and was happy to focus on the work.
Any training that I’ve shown interest in has been pursued and I was given the opportunity to attend a User Event for our HRIS, in order to further develop in one of the areas I enjoy the most.

Great! Directly following on from my internship, I have been offered an permanent position which will see me taking on more responsibility and specialising towards my strengths.
The Culture
I would’ve liked to seen some interest groups or had the opportunity to mix with more of the company, but the office is full is friendly and sociable people. There’s always a group of people you can join with at lunch and definitely a group heading to the pub! There are a couple of ‘clubs’ (team challenge group and 5-a-side group) if that suits your interests.
Working in the City is always going to be expensive, but living within the salary is definitely doable.
Good, there are a lot of bars and some clubs around here.
There are opportunities to get involved with activities but these definitely aren't for everyone
