    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was thoroughly enjoyable and Buro Happold went the extra mile to ensure I gained all the experience I wanted during my short placement there. The company provides and friendly and laid back atmosphere whilst giving you an opportunity to work on some of the worlds most interesting projects.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Despite being a summer placement student, colleagues were always eager to get you involved in the 'deep end' of projects which provided an insightful experience. At no stage did you feel any less involved or important then full time colleagues.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At all times staff were happy to help you (despite their busy schedules). The environment created never made me feel hesitant to ask questions.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had work to do, although at times it felt a bit 'linear' as in moving from one task to the next which I guess is a consequence of such a short placement. My personal preference is to be working on multiple things at the same time or to be working on the 'bigger goal'

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Responsibility was in-line with experience, with plenty of room to get more assuming you could prove you were capable.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt on the placement are already providing to be useful upon return to university, my design project is made all the easier having seen how it is done in the professional world.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Office atmosphere was friendly and welcoming.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Organisation was practically perfect, made starting at the firm very easy.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Even as a short term placement, plenty of time was set aside for training and development. I was even invited on a CPD trip to the Port Talbort steel works.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Buro Happold have been in touch with regards to graduate employment since leaving the placement.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Buro Happold invested a lot into a young engineers forum (YEF) which made socialising very easy.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in the Bath office - not the cheapest city, but not as expensive as London either.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Bath has some nice quaint nightlife with plenty of different things to do. I've been a student here for 5 years and it can seem quiet after a while. However, Bristol is only a 10 minutes train away.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Emails were sent around the whole office regularly to invite people to activities during lunchtimes/after work

    4/5
