The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement particularly at the Towcester office; it is smaller than most so you feel like part of the team to a larger extent. The work I was doing was also enjoyable as it was a mix of different types, one day working on reports another presentations another on a business trip, it was always varied. The local area is also very quaint and picturesque which I appreciated.
I felt very valued by colleagues, everyone had a voice and you could give your perspective for a solution to a problem with confidence.
Support was great; my manager gave me lots of freedom however I also had guidance when I required it. It was the perfect balance between the two.
I would say I was relatively busy from day to day; in general I was given enough work to not let me get bored but not too much that I would be overworked.
I was given a lot of responsibility throughout my placement starting from the very first week, I was given important assignments to do often and I would be trusted to complete them in a timely manner. All in all a good amount of responsibility was given,
My work really helped me to reinforce the thermodynamic concepts learnt at university by applying them to real life problems. It really has helped with my studies and has allowed me to grow as a professional engineer.
The Company
The atmosphere was great, lots of fun to be had around the office and we would regularly have social events in the office which was nice.
The work placement was very well organised, from the offset a hierarchy was imposed that helped to assist you whenever you may have a problem, and I never felt like an extra member of the team, I would always be given new work to do that was actually meaningful.
The company did a great job of training; the first couple of weeks was spent solely on training us in the new software we would be using and the entire first month was spent under direction of the previous placement students which was very effective.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
I would say that this placement has certainly helped my job prospects should I decide to apply for a job here again.
The Culture
There was a relatively good rapport among the students, in the Towcester office there were 4 other students so we all went to lunch every day as a group, everyone is very friendly in the office.
The cost of living in Towcester is not too high given that there are multiple supermarkets nearby and a local farmer's market every couple of weeks.
Nightlife was fairly non-existent in Towcester basically because it is quite far away from the two major cities nearby; however if you live in Milton Keynes or Northampton that would be better.
There were a few clubs that I could've been a part of nearby.
