    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A mixture of different activities and working with different people kept me on my toes and enjoying the experience.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues in the Nottingham office made me feel at home from the start. They don't hesitate to go out of their way to help , and encourage questions and general curiosity.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was working with two experts in the field and under them I felt very relaxed and comfortable. They gave me support and guidance throughout the year ,but also understood the importance of self learning which meant that, through my learning, I would need less support and guidance as the year progressed. Communications was somewhat strained , as we all worked in different offices, but through email and other social networks supplied by the company , we were able to keep in good contact.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • A variety. Some days were busier than others (naturally). But the important thing was that I was given frequent work: so someway or another, I always ended up with something to be working on.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I really felt that Mentor Graphics treats Interns and full time employees alike. The work I did in the projects I took part in , would end up in the final product. One example even included a spreadsheet which was shown as a promotion tool to a potential customer. The trust and responsibility I was given as an intern to me shows Mentor Graphics' professionalism and general courtesy it has for its employees on all heights of the ladder.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The experience I had with Mentor Graphics was impeccable. I put engineering theory , which was learned at university , and found it's "real life" applications. Organization and time planning was essential , and that was largely reinforced. The social aspects , such as dealing with a range of different personalities in different fields and even simply talking to new people in a "kitchen environment",are important if you want to be most efficient working in a team of individuals (especially in a multinational company).

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very relaxed and professional !

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very good , especially considering the fact that my job role had never been used before. At the end of the year , we found things which could be improved if another intern takes my role.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We spent a lot of time in training sessions learning their software. At the end of the year we also had an assessment of our performance and how we can improve in future employment.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If a job within the company opens up, which I feel is the right one for me , I would be very happy to return !

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Mabey in future organizing events for interns in all offices would be a good idea to increase the bond between them. The only real social scenes with interns were in the kitchen and at lunch time. But this could be arranged through the interns without company intervention as well.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Coming from London , Nottingham was very cheap ! In general though very reasonable pricing in terms of living and socializing.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nottingham is great for going out.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Joined Tennis clubs but nothing else . Depending on what office you are at , and where your accommodation is, this varies.
