The Role
My placement year at American Express was the most enjoyable job I have ever had! It was a brilliant balance between work and social life and also allowed me to benefit from London life.
My role at Amex was an Analyst and meant that I was doing the same work as other analysts that had already graduated. My team were really inclusive and everyone was extremely accommodating.
All the time! They were always on hand to help and even senior leaders were happy to discuss their experiences and give good advice.
There were very busy times and quieter times but all in all it was manageable and not too stressful!
Lots! Amex treats its interns/grads like real employees and give them work that will actually be used with to represent Amex.
They've helped me and invaluable amount. I've learnt about certain skills that I didn't know I had as well as improved on my strengths. Now I also have real life experience I can take back to university to help in final year modules.
The Company
American Express has an extremely friendly culture for financial services. Everyone is happy to talk with you and give you advice/support when you need it. Some teams are more social than others but its all about being proactive anyway.
There were many brilliant events set up by the HR team during the first 10 weeks of our placement year.
If you impress your team/leaders then they'll put you in positions to excel.

Very appealing - they offer graduate roles with many training and development opportunities.
The Culture
Yes - but London is expensive so be prepared for that!
Extremely expensive, but American Express values it's employees and pays them well.
Average but it's central London so you can just jump on the tube to get to where you need to go.
Yes - plenty. Whether it was social, sports or volunteering in the community. There was always something for you to get involved with. Would highly recommend the women's interest network (WIN). Brilliant networking opportunity and lots of fun events.
