    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement year at American Express was the most enjoyable job I have ever had! It was a brilliant balance between work and social life and also allowed me to benefit from London life.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My role at Amex was an Analyst and meant that I was doing the same work as other analysts that had already graduated. My team were really inclusive and everyone was extremely accommodating.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All the time! They were always on hand to help and even senior leaders were happy to discuss their experiences and give good advice.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were very busy times and quieter times but all in all it was manageable and not too stressful!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots! Amex treats its interns/grads like real employees and give them work that will actually be used with to represent Amex.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • They've helped me and invaluable amount. I've learnt about certain skills that I didn't know I had as well as improved on my strengths. Now I also have real life experience I can take back to university to help in final year modules.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • American Express has an extremely friendly culture for financial services. Everyone is happy to talk with you and give you advice/support when you need it. Some teams are more social than others but its all about being proactive anyway.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were many brilliant events set up by the HR team during the first 10 weeks of our placement year.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • If you impress your team/leaders then they'll put you in positions to excel.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes - but London is expensive so be prepared for that!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Extremely expensive, but American Express values it's employees and pays them well.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Average but it's central London so you can just jump on the tube to get to where you need to go.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes - plenty. Whether it was social, sports or volunteering in the community. There was always something for you to get involved with. Would highly recommend the women's interest network (WIN). Brilliant networking opportunity and lots of fun events.
