    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very much so, I was able to learn from a wide range of people with different skills and I could get stuck in with projects I found interesting. The location was also great being in London which meant I could have a great work/life balance. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone I interacted with were amicable from the onsite engineers to the head of operations. They made me feel at home which gave me the confidence to exceed my expectations. I have made work relationships and friendships that will carry on for many years.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was amazing! If there was anything I was interested she would try to accommodate that. All the senior managers would offer guidance when and where they could.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the beginning it was quite slow as I had to get to grips with everything, this is the same in any company you go to but I was kept busy with getting to know the business and working with other teams. Near the end of the year I got a lot busier. Which I prefer, you could push yourself to work as much as you liked but there was never any pressure for you to work more than you should.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As the months went on I was given more and more responsibility, if you can prove yourself and are active you can become a very valuable part of the team and lead certain aspects of projects!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Now I'm able to put the theoretical information I learn and uni into something practical when thinking about it because of my experience. I've also received training in Health and Safety which I will use forever as well as other various trainings I carried out whilst on my placement.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great, very busy, there is a lot of people in the office so the atmosphere was always nice. Different departments were happy to help if they could so you were free to walk around the office. Colleagues also got together at lunch time.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was quite well organised, I was part of the team straight away. You could make the placement what you wanted with support from most people.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given the chance to do any internal training, health and safety, first aid etc and I was also allowed to attend an external training event which was both work related and personal for me. There was always opportunities to do training I would have liked even more but being there 11 months there is only so much time you can have off for it!

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very, I have been offered a job when I have finished my degree. The pay is good and all the other employees I have met have been very supportive.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we all met up on many occasions. I would regularly go out for food and drinks with the ones at my location as well as other colleagues.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very expensive as I was in London. Whenever I went out with work colleagues they would bare that in mind so I still managed to go out and socialise.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was in central London near a business district so in the week it was great!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were some but many people live far away so not as many as there could have been.

    3/5
