The Role
It was a lot of hard work but I learned a lot, met a lot of nice people and realised that a very good work-life balance is very important.
I was appreciated for my contribution to the team and the hard work I put in to delivering the user stories on the sprint board.
My supervisor was very helpful and, when I made them aware of my rough situation with accommodation, was even willing to help me find a new place. Everybody was very understanding and always willing to help.
There were days when I had a lot of meetings so I was very busy, but I would have prefered to have time for my user stories, and days were I could focus on my work and still feel productive.
My project was very important for the company, although not for its customers, but I felt that the VPs all had their eyes on us and all the work my colleagues and I put in was of high importance.
Out of everything I got out of this summer I am most pleased about the new technical skills I have achieved and the awareness I have now of the importance of networking. So this internship has proved to be a great learning experience.
The Company
Everybody was very relaxed and friendly but the work was always most important during the 8 hours we were there. However, as soon as it was 5 o'clock we were encouraged to go home and enjoy the rest of our day.
I think the internship was very well organised and had a variety of events and talks planned out for us, the interns. It is amazing how many things they managed to organise for us.
The company and my supervisor were very helpful in giving me both positive and negative feedback, to help me grow and raise my confidence.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
The company is looking to become more of a technology based company so for computer scientists such as myself the employment prospects are great.
The Culture
All the interns and other graduates were very friendly and organised a lot of outing outside of work so it was indeed a friendly environment.
Coming from the middle of England, where prices aren't very high, I was surprised by how expensive Brighton and the south in general is. For the conditions I lived in I definitely overpayed, but I know some other interns who paid the same for better.
I don't enjoy going out so I can't speak from my own experience, as I never went out. But I know the other interns really enjoyed their nights out and that they organised outings almost every weekend.
As far as opportunities outside of work, I think this is what the company does best as we could have gotten involved with voluntneering and various events in Brighton throughout the 10 weeks we were there.
