    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at i2i events, I was quickly and warmly welcomed by my team and felt like a valued member. There is a great atmosphere within the office and my work load was interesting and challenging, I wasn't just photocopying or making tea, I forged relationships with clients, managed my own workload and campaigns and was trusted to work on site at events.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues and team members. My workload was representative of a full time member of staff, meaning I was able to learn the ropes quickly and be a fully fledged and valued member of my team very quickly. Everyone was happy to praise and encourage my good work, making me feel appreciated and valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The mentor scheme at i2i was imperative to the guidance I received. I had a mentor within my team, available to answer any of my work related/project based questions and she was incredibly supportive of any questions, none were too big or too small. My line managers were also very supportive. As well as a team mentor I was allocated a mentor from the office who I did not work directly with, allowing me the opportunity to discuss any other issues with her that were unrelated to work.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • After the initial week, which was spent getting up to speed with the teams projects and expectations, my workload was similar to that of a full time employee. It's safe to say I was never bored, however, I also never felt as though I had too much work to take on and I couldn't cope. On a weekly basis I would have a meeting with my mentor and discuss my weekly work load, whether I had too much or too little and things were adjusted accordingly.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given plenty of responsibility, I managed and forged relationships with clients and exhibitors by email, over the phone and face to face. I was tasked with managing my own social media campaigns, creating the campaign and ensuring it was scheduled on time. I formed relationships with outside contractors and developers. I worked independently and to tight deadlines on marketing and deliverables required for events.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere is very relaxed, with breakout and sofa spaces for casual meetings and catch ups, and hot desking policy to promote interaction with other teams and the ability to work from home when it suited. It was a lively office where laughter and joking were encouraged as well as social activities.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From the interview process through to the end of the placement it was very well organised. On the first day we had an induction which provided all the relevant information concerning work processes and expectations. I knew what was expected of me, where to be and what to be doing. If I had questions they were answered quickly and sufficiently.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a 6 month contract with the company following my internship. I have happily accepted the offer as I find this to be an exciting office, with interesting and engaging colleagues, the office has a great work life balance, with a few social events organised by the company each month as well as yoga on a weekly basis.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Not only was there a social and happy atmosphere between the interns on the programme, there was a great social scene amongst all colleagues and members of staff in the office. At least 3 or 4 times a month there would be a social event held in the office, ranging from drinks and food, lunch and dinners to other activities such as a treasure hunt. Interns were actively encouraged to attend all social events to interact with other members of staff in the office.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living, travelling and socialising in London is costly, particularly within zone 1, where this internship is based. However, social activities planned by work were always paid for by the company, from drinks and dinner inside or outside the office. There were also other subsidised benefits such as weekly yoga classes which bring down the cost of living.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is not much nightlife surrounding the office building, it is mostly offices in the surrounding areas. There were a few pubs and bars which we would attend after work for socials or restaurants we would frequent for lunches should we wish. Most of the social activities were held in the office or in rented spaces for the large summer social.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were and continue to be plenty of opportunities for partaking in activities outside of work. From nights out, dinner and lunches and drinks. To yoga, treasure hunts and summer socials. Part of the office atmosphere is a social side, where it is understood happy and sociable teams work better together. They are all paid for by the company or subsidised as London is pretty expensive.
