    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship at Citi Bank was an amazing experience and has opened for me so many new opportunities. I met senior managers, inspiring individuals and gained a great insight into the finance industry. I am happy that I had many opportunities to network and learn more about the company and its core operations.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I think one of the best things of my internship was the general atmosphere and attitude of my colleagues. Although everyone was busy with his own tasks, my colleagues were always up for a conversation with me whenever they were free. In addition to that, I was not treated differently just because I was an intern.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was always guidance and help when you needed to. Professionals across Citi Bank, such as junior members to senior managers, were organised to lecture us and to give us tips. Thus, there was no lack of guidance. However, most of the tasks were self-explanatory and could be achieved without help if you put in the effort and find a way.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • To be frank, at the beginning I was overwhelmed with tasks because it was the first time for me really working in such a professional environment. However, I learned a lot and I coped with certain tasks better and better. This was also mainly because of the great guidance during my internship. My tasks included preparing presentation, prepare report or updating slides.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In hindsight, this internship was a beneficial in terms of developing and gaining essential skills such as people skills or time management skills. Working in a professional and busy environment is a difference from what you are used to at university. You are expected to develop quickly and getting to know people quickly can be beneficial because they could possibly answer your questions. Furthermore, I learned how certain economic strategies can be applied in real life and learned more about how to use software like Excel.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very professional and stimulating. You can be expected to be busy most of your time and so will be your colleagues. However, you are always involved from day one and everyone is willing to help you out. I would suggest to get used to your new environment (learning new vocabulary) to make most of your time and to show that your keen to solve problems by yourself.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship at Citi Bank was really well structured. You are constantly engaged with tasks either in your specific division or with other interns. In my opinion this was a great balance and gave the whole experience variety. I enjoyed much of the tasks and presentations but the self-reflection which we had to hand in at the end of our internship was one of the most useful ones in my opinion because I could discover more about myself

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst my fellow students was good. This was a result of the several social events which were organised by Citi Bank throughout the internship. We had a lot of opportunities to get to know each other and network. Especially the final internship celebration was a great way to end such an amazing experience.
