    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my Internship at the branch. I have been given my own responsibilities including ownership of a large CRS project. I came to the bank without any prior experience in the finance or banking sector but feel after just 3 months I have gained invaluable experience to begin a career in banking.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My role includes supporting the individual and corporate bank managers within the branch. The managers are always grateful of the support I give within my role. My colleagues treat me as one of the team and I during the 3 months I have been working at Handelsbanken, I have always felt equal to my other colleagues and have been treated with respect.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The supportive culture at Handelsbanken is fantastic and is one of the main reasons why I hope to have a long term career within the bank. The bank managers I work alongside are some of the best in the industry and they go out of their way to explain things to me properly. If I have a question, I will ask it, if there is a problem or I don't know how to do something, one of the team is always willing to help or guide me in the right direction. I could not ask for a more supportive environment.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There is always something to do at Handelsbanken. My daily tasks typically include: Account opening Answering the phone Meeting and greeting customers at the door Dealing with customer queries General administrative procedures Customer home visits (alongside the manager) Lots of varied duties makes the day go really quickly. There's always something different to be doing, I manage my own time to a certain extent which is great as there are no tight dead lines or pressure.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I managed a project on my own which involved processing tax declaration forms from every customer at the branch and chasing those that did not fill out the form. It required in depth knowledge of the CRS regulations imposed on all banks by the Government and a great level of time management. This has been a really good addition to my C.V.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My 3 month internship has prepared me for a career in banking. The branch has recently opened up a full time position and I feel I stand a good chance of securing the job due to the training, support and development opportunities I have received during my internship.
