    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Linklaters have a well-structured four week vacation scheme. This is longer than most other firms which means you gain a fuller insight into their firm and commercial law as a career. The specially formulated introductions to every department also means, despite sitting in two seats, that you gain an understanding of the wider business and the interdependencies between each.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • 4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • In each seat you have a trainee buddy and a principal to guide you through your time, not only in their department, but the wider business and events as a whole. This is invaluable as it gives you an honest perspective of the firm and why they love working at Linklaters. Not only this but in each team you are fully integrated- you will feel a part of the team from day one with everyone wanting to help you and make sure you have a great experience!

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I heightened my skills in a number of ways including, but not limited to: commercial awareness, drafting, research, and presentation ability. This experience made me realise that I truly want to be a commercial lawyer, what it would take, and how I would achieve this. Furthermore, this vacation scheme gave me the confidence to believe that it would be possible for me.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • 5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Intertwining the above question the vacation scheme as a whole was very well structured. Every day there would be an event to peak our interest from a commercial perspective. Not only this but every Monday and Wednesday we would have a social event. These included riding on the Thames Rib, a Taxi Treasure Hunt, going up the London Eye, and so many meals and treats that it was clear Linklaters was investing a lot of time in us. Furthermore, everyone at Linklaters was welcoming and smiling and this meant I could see myself having a career at this firm.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was clear the firm, as previously mentioned, was willing to invest a lot of time and energy into making sure you had a truly amazing vacation scheme. I got to attend court, associate training, and work on matters that made me feel included in the team. We had continuous access to our graduate recruitment buddy who answered any queries we had about the application process and any improvements we had for the vacation scheme.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We had the opportunity to talk to numerous people at the firm. I was lucky enough to have two trainee buddies in each seat which definitely gave me a number of opinions. But it did not stop there- everyone was willing to spend as much time with you to answer any questions about their work, why they chose Linklaters, or give you help about the work you have been given on your scheme.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Although I have mentioned a lot about insights into departments we also had introductions to the company, their future plans, and how they would achieve this. Once you visit Linklaters you know the culture instantly- however, it is through a four week placement like this that you understand the culture and whether it is the right fit for you (which is not hard as it is an amazing firm).

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Every day you would interact with multiple people at different stages in their career. This was invaluable as it illustrated the career progression throughout Links. For instance, I had frequent chats with partners within each seat. They were more than happy to spare time despite their busy schedule. We even got the opportunity to go for a Partner's Dinner. This was great as we were able to network with partners on a more social and accessible level out of the office.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The social events were well organised and we were never left bored! It was a great experience as, on my scheme, the Indian Internship was also running. This meant that I was able to get to know students my age from a completely different country and culture. This again illustrates what a truly global firm Linklaters is.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Most definitely- despite not being able to attend, I even got invited to play tag rugby! We were given access to the gym and an idea of the multiple sports teams Links has. Furthermore, we got to attend a school to give talks to students on why we have chosen to study law and pursue a career in the legal sector. This was a school closely linked with the Pro-Bono work that Linklaters is involved in on a frequent basis. So we did not just find out, we got to experience it and get involved also.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I could not recommend this placement enough to anyone who is even slightly considering a career in law. If Links has not persuaded you already that their firm is the place to kick-start your legal career then attending the Vacation Scheme will make your mind up. I enjoyed every moment on my Vacation Scheme and I am sure you will too.
