    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed being able to add value to my team by partaking in a combination of project work and business as usual tasks. My team was incredibly supportive and always found the time to help me out.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued because I was able to lessen my team's work load by completing tasks that they otherwise would have to complete themselves.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly catch-ups with my team (my mentor, buddy, manager, HR, etc.). Being able to meet with so many people made me feel valued; I felt like I was a member of the team.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Everyday I came in with multiple tasks that I needed to complete-- from project work to my daily tasks, but the great thing is that I always had a couple of hours each day when I could meet/shadow different teams, grab coffee with various members in the firm across teams. I always had the time to ameliorate my understanding of the firm, and to better understand and be a part of the culture.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement I was afforded the opportunity to take on tasks that my team would ordinarily take on. I also had complete control and flexibility of my schedule, so I could plan coffee meetings and shadowing sessions, and also be trusted and expected to complete work in an appropriate amount of time. I was given many responsibilities, but I was also given the freedom of responsibility to manage my time and work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Within the boundaries of my role as a summer intern, and while keeping risk management in mind, my team gave me the freedom/opportunity to take on various daily tasks, in addition to helping with project work that would help to improve overall team efficiency.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My team had an incredible work-life balance. They were able to work hard at all times, but the team dynamics were also very strong, and I think this is due to the team dynamics. The team would constantly make jokes with one another, no matter how stressful the day, and I think this is critical when working in such a fast-paced environment. Being in this team gave me a wonderful impression of the firm overall, as I was comfortable and felt that I belonged-- I could really see myself coming back.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work was very organized-- when I arrived at my desk all of my projects had been outlined. HR also had dozens of events and talks set up for us, which made each day and week interesting. Even down to assigning us to mentors and buddies before arriving, to organizing a global innovation competition, it was very obvious that the firm was awaiting our arrival and had been preparing for us to come.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • You can tell that the firm invested in me by all of the time they take to train and speak with us, and this goes for the entire firm. Across teams and employment levels, everybody I met with was always willing to give me their time to talk about what they do and to give advice. When people take so much time away from their work to help you and to see you grow as an individual-- even when they have nothing to gain-- that's when you really feel the firm's investment in you.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be very happy to return to the firm. It is a very friendly environment where you can learn and be yourself. Plus I have taken so much away from this internship and learnt so much, and I would like to put this all into practice at the next level.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The team dynamics were amazing, and part of that was the amount of time we spent together outside of work, from bowling to socializing. And with the fellow interns, we spent so much time together-- we were a very cohesive class, making this the best summer I have ever had. From visiting museums, to Saturday brunch, I could not have asked for a better more cohesive class of interns.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was affordable, even as I lived a 10 minute walk from work. With the compensation, it was very easy to live in such an expensive city.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was available close to the firm, but also across the city, giving you a wide range of options and activities to fill up your weekends and evenings.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are many networks in the firm for people with diverse interests, meaning that there was always something to do after work, but also meaning that that the diversity was rich and the firm was inclusive.
