The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my month internship at Savills. It was extremely well structured from the moment we arrived and until we left. We were provided with opportunities to get to know the other interns better, through drinks and sports events, and were given regular departmental talks to help us understand the industry and Savills better.
My team was very close and sociable. They were very welcoming and inclusive from the beginning and more mentor made sure she introduced me to every member of the team. This made it easier for me to approach team members to get new work and answer any of my questions. My colleagues made sure I had enough work to do and were also very considerate when explaining to me what I had to do. Furthermore they took time to actually talk through the theory and function of their work instead of simply setting me tasks and letting me get on with it.
The whole team was always willing to help me out and give me guidance. They explained things well and never got annoyed if I asked questions. Current grads and those who had recently qualified were more than happy to explain the application process for the grad scheme and also the structure and what to expect once on it.
I pretty much always had something to do for the duration of the internship. Team members were happy to explain to me exactly what they were doing with their work and a variety of team members regularly provided me with tasks to do.
I was given the amount of responsibility reasonably possible in the role. I was given individual tasks and had to contact contractors. I understood that I couldn't personally take on responsibility for a client and didn't expect to.
The skills I have developed during my time at Savills have mainly been related to my professional abilities and knowledge of the industry/team. I feel as if I have started my development into a surveyor and have learnt about an area of real estate I haven't had much contact with/learnt about at university.
The Company
The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. Compared to other firms I have worked at Savills was much more friendlier and people seemed to enjoy working there more. Before coming here I had heard about Savills having a different culture and being different to other firms, I found this to be true and very appealing.
We knew what team we were in before starting our internship and exactly what was happening on the first day.
