    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • An excellent company to work for. Friendly and knowledgeable people and a well organised internship program.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Nomura stood out as a place where people wanted to know who you were and took the time to get to know you.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You are assigned mentors and buddies to help guide you through your internship, which prove very handy. Most desk managers are very supportive and engaged and HR are exceptionally useful.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This can be quite desk dependent, but between networking, doing desk work and doing overall internship work you find yourself on the whole very busy!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Again, desk dependent. But there are usually opportunities for you to have a real impact on the desks you rotate on, and most teams come well prepared for your arrival.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The networking skills and professional work ethic you gain from an internship at Nomura will prove invaluable. Also, for those studying finance or related courses, there are many opportunities to learn a lot about markets and banking in general, which could help a lot with future studies.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very positive. Trading floors are naturally very loud and busy most of the time, but this is more exciting than intimidating. People work very hard at Nomura and take their work seriously, but there is a great social scene and you will find you get to know many people on the floor very quickly through out-of-work events.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship is well organised, HR are very present and host a number of events throughout the internship to encourage intern cohesion and to facilitate networking with other managers.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There is a decent level of basic training before the internship, but a lot of it is about being proactive and learning on the job. This may mean spending a lot of personal time getting up to speed with how the different markets work, but there are good resources available to use.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It is certainly a desirable company to work for. Gaining a spot on the graduate program may be slightly harder than on other internships, but you are valued far more at Nomura.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Interns are encouraged to get to know other analysts and associates at the firm and there are a number of social events scheduled for interns during the summer.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is an expensive city, but the internships is well paid and accommodation for 10 weeks is not difficult to come by.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
