    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed the internship, I was put in the renewable energy team which was quite small hence got to know the team very well from the get go. I was given very important work to do from my first day there.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued by the team, I was give important work to do straight away. I attend lots of client meetings where I was asked to give opinion on the things that very important to the business. My opinion were taken on board and also implemented, this showed how much the team valued my opinions.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My team was very small so I was always with my manger and could just slide my chair over if I wanted to ask him any questions. He was always on hand to answer my questions and would give me honest opinions and feedback. My team support always made sure I was involved in everything he did, he would invite me to his client meetings (externally and internally). This kind of support is crucial when learning the business.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy all day every day, I was given lots of work to do from day 1. The type of work I did varied each day so it was always something different each day. The times I did not have work, I always had opportunity to shadow other teams in the department.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given lots of responsibility from day 1. My main task was to contact teams in other countries, this was difficult as I was only an intern contacting regional leaders. This shows the amount of responsibility I was given.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My skills developed so much at WTW, coming from a scientific background, WTW exposed me to the broking world and how to maintain client relationships. something completely different from my university degree.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was extremely lively, since it was a small team surrounded by other small teams we all got to know each other well. We used to play pranks on each other, which always bighted up the mood in the offices. Fridays were the best days in the offices as everyone was up for a laugh and go for drinks after.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was extremely structured. With certain days reserved in our calendar before we even started working there. Sometimes this really structured approach made it hard to set up meetings or go for external events during the times that were reserved for lunch and learns.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst the other interns was always good. Most of the interns went for drinks after work. The GDP also set up events for us to get involved in and get to know each other outside of work, which is always good.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very Expensive!! although some bars are very cheap and not too far from the offices

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Always a good laugh, seeing the same people you drank with all night at work the next day ready to work. Get used to seeing the same people every week, the square mile is small.
