The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with J.P. Morgan and I learnt more than I expected to. I also met some great people who I hope to keep in touch with in the future.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. I was told that the work I was doing would be integrated into the daily work of the team both during and beyond my internship. All of my colleagues were willing to set aside time to talk to me and they were happy to answer any questions that I had.
My manager was always around to answer questions and provide guidance
I was generally busy on a daily basis - the projects all interns are given to work on meant we had on-going work to be doing throughout the summer. My team also gave me general tasks to work on each day with anything they needed doing.
The extent to which an intern can be given responsibility during an internship is obviously limited, however, I feel as though I was given as much as was possible considering my knowledge level.
The skills I developed during the internship will be useful at university and beyond. Not only has my knowledge of finance greatly increased, but throughout the summer there was also opportunities to improve areas such as presentation skills and personal impact.
The Company
I think the general atmosphere in the office was a good balance between working hard and been relaxed. Throughout the summer, we were all encouraged to approach people in different areas of the firm and the atmosphere meant that I felt very comfortable going to talk to people and organising meetings.
The internship was generally well organised and there was at least one or two sessions or events organised by HR each week. At the start of the internship, we set objectives and followed these up at the end of our time with the firm so we were able to see the progress we had made.
The firm invested greatly in all of the interns during our time with them. Clearly, a lot of organisation goes into making the internship as enjoyable as possible and there was a strong emphasis on the importance of personal development, both in and outside of work.
Subsidised Canteen

Healthcare/Dental
based on the internship, future employment with the firm ids very appealing.
The Culture
I got on extremely well with the internship group I was with and we all tried our best to organise dinners/social events between the group.
The cost of living was what is expected in London. I lived in the middle of the city so accommodation costs were generally a little higher than living further out.
The nightlife in the City is generally quieter at weekends but there are plenty of other areas where there are numerous restaurants, bars and clubs.
Whilst I did not get involved in any activities outside of work, there are networks and sports clubs such football and running which interns were encouraged to join. The Corporate Challenge (5k run) between banks also took place whilst the internship was happening and an intern team was set up for us to take part if we wanted to.
