The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at WTW. The programme was well structured with many social events, valuable training and great support structures. Due to the different speaker events I had the opportunity to get to know many different areas of the business. Everyone is very friendly, so it was easy to meet with different people in order to hear about their career which was a really interesting and enjoyable part of the 8 weeks. On a different note, I had the feeling that HR and everyone involved throughout the whole application process and internship took the time to make the application process very personal and this programme very well organised, enjoyable and at the same time challenging.
Since I was doing a project that did not really relate to what the people at the desks around me were doing, I was not talking to them as much. However, everyone that I was closely involved with and everyone I met was always friendly and happy to answer my questions.
The support structures were really good. I had a graduate buddy who was an invaluable help for the project I was doing in my business unit. My senior mentor, although she was very busy, was also a great support and put me in touch with people I wanted to meet. I had two line managers as well, so a lot of people to keep up to date. They were generally very busy and sometimes hard to get hold of, but they were always happy to answer any questions and explain my tasks to me.
It was quite varied. Some days I was quite busy because I had a lot of meetings with different people, which I had set up myself. On other days, I did not have too much to do which was also due to the nature of my project because I sometimes had to wait for datasets to come through. But I am sure if I had had nothing to do, other people in the teams around would have been happy to give me some work.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility for the project I was working on, but I also kept my managers up to date so they could double-check my work.
I definitely learned how to deal with a corporate environment and the whole idea of networking and communicating as well as keeping up to date with many people at the same time. Since we had a project team task going on throughout the whole internship and had make time to meet up, I also improved my organisational, time management and team work skills. The presentation skills training was very valuable and I could take many things away from it, that will surely help me with presentations in the future.
The Company
There is a friendly atmosphere in the office, everyone was always very nice and polite. Some people are often very busy and I think it really depends on the business unit whether there is a lot of chatting going on or whether it is a rather quiet environment.
The programme was very organised and we all knew the exact programme details and dates of events right from the start. So it was very transparent and could not have been better!
We had some great personal impact and presentation skills training and of course we learned a lot from the different speakers every week.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I would definitely consider working here, there are so many different opportunities especially since the merger.
The Culture
All the other interns were very nice and we had a lot of fun at the social events and spend a lot of time together at lunch or in our project teams. People in my business unit only went out occassionally but if they did they always invited me.
It's London, so it is very expensive.
Nightlife is pretty good, since it is London.
We had some great social events outside of work which were quite fun but not much else other than that. There are some sports teams that interns can join as well.
