    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had an amazing time with the company and a great experience. I had the support of my team to get involved in various projects, to understand the products, to deliver presentations and to expand my network by shadowing people from different departments and locations. I became part of various internal societies and met managers and cooperated with other internes at various networking and social events.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was regularly asking for feedback from my managers and other team members so I can constantly improve and do my job better. My team members were very helpful when I was trying to shadow them and to ask about their roles. They considered and encouraged me to implement fresh ideas and contribute to improve the reporting processes and mechanisms.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have received great support, especially from my manager. My work was appreciated and I felt that I contributed to the team. My ideas were valued and I received regular feedback at our weekly meetings. He was extremely helpful in providing the correct level of training and support form the very beginning of my internship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I received various tasks that kept me busy and I enjoyed analysing data, generating different formulas and reporting the results obtained. I was working with 2 managers and had the opportunity to be involved in 2 distinct projects that require a wide range of skills, such as problem solving, analytical capabilities, communication skills and team work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have received a high degree of responsibility as I had the chance to plan my tasks and my time in order to deliver them before the deadline. I had the opportunity to coordinate my own work by collaborating with other teams from various countries and hubs. I felt as a valuable asset to the company and my work was appreciated.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was part of the Business Architecture and Transformation team and my role helped me a lot to understand the processes of the business and how to coordinate the products in a more efficient way. I am studying Business with Law and during the internship I had the chance to learn more about the mechanisms for creating and implementing a product within the company, as well as its wider impact on the company.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very calm, pleasant and peaceful. I was very happy to come into office and I found it very easy to work with my colleagues as there are so many facilities, like quiet rooms, teleconference rooms which make the communication and work much easier. At a global scale, it is easier to collaborate with teams from various countries and complete the projects on time.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was a great scheme and the program included various events and trainings that helped me learn more about the company, its structure, its people and its culture in general. I was encouraged to shadow as many people as I could and build a large network with people in order to get that global exposure and make the work more enjoyable.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the start of the internship I had received a wide range of training courses which helped me understand the culture, values, internal rules of JP Morgan. Similarly, I have received the access to all the facilities, including the system control, the technology, the buddy support, networking events and other meetings with Senior people from other departments which contributed tremendously to my personal development and understanding of my role and department.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I found the environment very supportive as I would like to pursue at career at JP Morgan. I found it easy to get in contact with other colleagues, to shadow them and to understand their roles. I had a great exposure to different departments and people within the firm which helped me build my network of people and get involved in the projects I was interested in.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I have enjoyed various networking and social events organized for interns. I had the opportunity to work with them on different internal projects, to deliver presentations and to participate at the CSR event. It helped me to easily interact with other fellow internship students and help each other with any tasks received.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was ok, I chose the private accommodation which was a bit far from the office, but there are bus facilities which solve your problems. I found the area quite, peaceful and very green, especially during summer when you can find a lot of people on the beach organizing various events. A lot of interns were living in the halls and it helped them to enjoy their social life here in Bournemouth.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't check so many places so I felt that the nightlife is not that active as in other places, but I consider that there are amazing restaurants and cafes where you can go and party with your friends and other interns as well. It is a great place to be especially during summer as the atmosphere is fantastic on the beach where a lot of events are organized every weekend.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was encouraged to participate at different events organized by interns, such as kayaking, paintballing, volley, football on the beach, barbeques, carting, charity events. I felt that it is a good environment to turn your ideas into reality and support various good causes. The beach is amazing and offers a fantastic place where to rest and have fun outside work.
